10 years ago I had a prostatectomy. Researching THEN, I followed the story of a man who went to Alabama and has sural (sp?) nerve grafting at the same time as his prostatectomy. Seemed to go o.k. Not fabulous, but o.k. . He had great problems getting doctors to co-operate doing this but they did. It seems No doctor wants to stop half way, let another doctor work, then finish the job. All want their own surgical crew too. Nobody wants to take a chance of it going bad with another doctor involved and nobody wants to be at blame. I asked around and was given the same story. All wanted to do it in 2 surgeries. 2 surgical teams. Each doctor wants his own anesthesiologist. Goes like this: urologist f'cks you up and finishes the surgery. Then a neurologist rips you open and does his bit. The man I followed in 2008 had to pay it all out of pocket because insurance would not cover it calling it experimental. Same here. I wanted to give it a try. I would sacrifice two numb ankles for 1 working dick. No doctor would agree to any part of it w/o it being 2 separate surgeries. Like all of this, it is hard to believe 10 years later and no progress. Everything is at the same begin point. Just a different name and a different country.

bldionk, thanks for the link. Ali, this article looks as they may be on to something here. Maybe in the future this will be mainstream. My dad had an implant in 1974. The skeptics then were not sure how implants may work out.

Radical prostatectomy. With everyone, the nerves are damaged some. With some, half the nerves are removed and some, all the nerves are removed along with the prostate.
