Always wear your glasses when injecting.

I am a diabetic on insulin. Over the years I have accumulated a number of syringes in different sizes. This morning I decided to shoot up but forgot to wear my glasses. As a result, I could not read the calibrations on the side of the syringe barrel so I just filled the syringe up to the fifth marking because my normal syringe is 50 units and marked at 5 unit intervals. After injecting and waiting fifteen minutes, nothing happened so I put my glasses on and went back to the refrigerator to check the vial and found that it was my older nearly empty vial.

Kicking myself for not wearing my glasses, I found my full vial and started to fill the syringe to the fifth marking but this time I realized I was using a 100 unit syringe marked at 10 unit intervals. Had I not used the empty vial by mistake, I would have injected 50 units instead of 25 units and I would probably have ended up in the ER.

I agree that seeing can be a problem when injecting. I always take my glasses off when I fill the syringe and put my computer glasses on when 1njecting. Since Im small in flaccid state I have to be caeful and see well.

Yes, I have learned that I must wear my glasses when injecting and even when using my pump. Bad things can happen if one cannot see what they are doing to themselves.
