Storing mixed caverject.

Has anyone mixed a 40 mg vial of caverject and only used 20 mg and refrigerated/stored the remaining 20 mg for use later? I would like to get the 40 mg vials, use 20 mg and save the remaining 20 mg for later use. The manufacturer states to discard any unused amounts of the caverject.

You will see (a few and far between) references from others who also stash the extra leftover PGE-1 solution from their Caverject systems. Perfectly fine and when refrigerated will last a lot longer than the time it takes you to use it up.

In my case I make a 200mcg/ml 5ml vial of PGE-1 that I use over a month or two (taking 1-2 ml every so often and diluting it down to 60-80mcg/ml. I keep the remaining 200mcg solution frozen between draws and keep the diluted solution just refrigerated for a few weeks.

EIther way it degrades very slowly so you won't know the differences. Plus if you are worried about growing bacteria or molds, well, this is not beef juices we're talking about, it is a sterile vial and solution( except perhaps for the inclusion of air every time you draw -- but neglible risk there I would say -- but I am not an epidemiologist .. nor do I play one ...)

Thanks J for the reply. I have reconstituted some antibiotics for injecting animals and have kept the leftover for use over several days with not problems. So I figured the same would apply to the Caverject. However, as I said in my earlier post, the Pharmacist said the manufacture of the Caverject "suggested" that the remainder be thrown out. So now I will have my Dr. change the RX to 40 mg and will have left over.
