Hi,

I have been reading that injections are expensive, not really covered by insurance, and somewhere i read where someone got it off the internet. I would imagine i need to see a doctor to get the prescription, but how much does it cost? I know everyone probably is a little different, and you cant put a price on a nice erection, but just wondering aloud.....

I am happy to report that my trimix costs $115 per vial and my first vial lasted me over 4 months. In fact, i'd still be using that first vial if I hadn't dropped it on the floor and broke it. Doing the math, that's 17 or 18 weeks at 2 or 3 times per week. Let's say 36 shots to be conservative. That comes out to be $3.20 per bazinga. MUCH cheaper than any of the pill therapies I tried. And wood like I haven't seen since I was 19. Never, ever had these results with the pills. Granted, I use only a small dosage: 6 units or 0.06 cc or 0.06 ml. Others require up to 3 times that amount or anything in between. That also does not include the cost of the needles, but those costs are negligible. Not sure where you're getting info that injections are expenseive. Perhaps that reference was to one of the brand names. Bimix, Trimix, and Quadmix from a compounding pharmacy should not be expensive. And, no, my insurance does not help me at all with ED meds of any kind.

After 3 VERY frustrating years trying various combinations of pills (Viagra, Levitra, Cialis), I started injections in November. Doc prescribed Trimix for me and it has worked like a charm. My formula is Papaverine 30/Phentolamine 1/Prostaglandin 20. I think each uro has his own preferred forumula (ratio of the the 3 ingredients) and then modifies it as needed depending on the effectiveness and any side effects for the individual patient. After starting with a dosage of 30 units = 0.3 ml = 0.3 cc, I realized immediately that I was using a bit much. I worked the dosage down over the first month and now get consistent results using 0.06 ml = 0.06 cc - 6 units. That's actually a relatively small dose, I am told, but it works for me. It gives me a nice erection that lasts from 60 to 90 minutes.

I think that about covers what you've asked me. If you need any more information, feel free to post a question or contact me via PM. I would encourage anyone for whom the pills are not working consistently to ask the urologist about injections. Certainly others on this site have had good results with pumping, rings, etc. I just prefer the simplicity of a little prick stick. And I know what I'm going to get virtually every time.

Thank you Greg, I will have a talk with my uro, so far he has refused to give me Trimix, said it would be too painful.
My original uro, who retired, gave me a shot of caverject and it was painful, so my new uro said Trimix would be too.
I will have to have a talk with him.

I think Caverject could also be called "unimix". I think it's a brand name and has one active ingredient. so not sure of the parallel with trimix. Also ask doc about bimix and quadmix. Apparently adding or deleting ingredients is one way they work around side effects, such as site pain or aching. Someone with more knowledge than I can speak to these issues better. Guys?

If the Caverject causes too much ache that is the Alprostidal then usually they move you to Tri Mix which has a bit of Alprostidal in it but they can put you on BiMix which has not Alprostidal in it.

I have tried Bimix, .5cc with a 30 Guage needle x 5/16 length, along with 10mg Cialis. The best I got was about 50% erection. ?????????
