Brand and model of autoinjectors

Postby rondad » Wed Feb 22, 2017 11:57 am

Hi all,

There have been quite a number of posts regarding specific brands and models of autoinjectors here, for which I thank everyone. I've been looking at various models of autoinjectors. One specific model mentioned here on franktalk is the Owen Mumford Autoject 2 EI. However, I found a chart on one of Owen Mumford's websites
http://www.omdevicesolutions.com/self-injection/autoinjectors/autoject-2/.

This chart indicats there is a model specifically identified as ok for intracavernosal injections – that model is the Autoject 2 FN-II. And in fact, all the other Autoject models have a "No" under the category of "Intracavernosal" – only the FN-II has a "Yes". However, virtually all posts here reference the EI or Autoeject 2 - none that I've found reference the FN-II.

A web search of the FN-II model comes up with zilch (other than the Owen Mumford website itself), and there is no other descriptive information about the different Autoject models. 2 emails to Owen Mumford in England have gone unanswered.

Has anyone found an online source of autoinjectors that can provide additional information? My pharmacy (an HMO "captive" pharmacy) hasn't been much help.

Thanks

Ron

Hi Ron

I read this post and the one regarding "Heavy Set" guys using the Auto Injector and can only tell you my experience with the Auto Injector I use. Here is a link to the one that was recommended to me by the Clinic that set me up initially with the Trimix:

http://zionhealth.myshopify.com/product ... utoject-ei

It is so simple to use and takes all the anxiety out of injecting as you never see the needle and it is set at a controlled depth so the consistency is always guaranteed. It is so fast that you will feel absolutely no pain and only hear the "snap" when you press the trigger. I do believe your squeamish wife could even do it for you. There is also a link on the site to a you tube video that shows you how to set it up and to inject.

I do wish you luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks Fordman,

I see you're using the Autoject EI - that's the one that I can find videos demonstrating its use, even though that is NOT the one that Owen Mumford's website says is OK for intracavernosal injections. It's amazing that clear information isn't available.

I'm happy to hear that you have had so much success with it. I'm planning on purchasing one and will let you know my results.

Ron

I use this exact injector and love he fact there is no pain and quick. I do have an issue I hope someone can help me with. The plunger never seems to inject all of the Trimix into me. Usually 5-10 units are left in the syringe which is frustrating.
I use a standard 29G X 1/2" 1ml insulin syringe and have calibrated the injector like it says. Any idea/tips as to why I can never get along the Trimix in via the autoimjector? Example.. I use 35 units of Trimix, inject with autoinjector and only 25-30 units inject.

Does the remaining medicine stay in the syringe when you pull the injector out or does it dispense the rest of it AFTER removing it?

If it stays in the syringe I would think there is a problem with the unit but if the remainder comes out AFTER pulling it out I would guess that you may not be injecting in the proper place or hitting something that stops the medicine from coming out of the needle. In any event, that is a lot of medication to waste and if it continues I would be leaning toward replacing it as this is not normal.

I only inject 10 - 12 units and have injected as much as 20 units with no issues of this nature. By the way, that's a great video that ocitgo posted using this same Autoject EL. It works exactly as in this video.

The medicine stays in the syringe after pulling it out the the injector. Frustrating as I got it just 3 months ago off of amazon and yes lot of medicine wasted.

Did this issue start when you first used it or later on?

Maybe the syringe is not compatible and if you can't resolve it see if there is a number you can call for customer service. Mine has an instruction manual but not sure if a number is listed in it.

It's always done that. Interesting never thought of syringe compatibility as I thought all were the same regardless of brand.

Determined the reason was the needle wasn't compatible with injector thanks to the compounding pharmacist. Picked up my refill, they provided compatible syringes and it worked perfectly.
Highly recommend the autoinjector. Extremely quick and no pain from my experience)
