I stumbled across this long post detailing a conversation between a urologist and a patient on injection techniques, including "aspirating" to draw blood to confirm you're injecting in the right spot. In the thread the patient is injecting quad mix but the techniques are the same for Trimix.

I use Autoject so aspiration is not possible. It still works with 100% accuracy though.
My penis is also about 1 inch across and I don't insert the 1/2 inch needle all the way, only about 5/16.
Very happy with my results!
