Alternating Sides on Injections or No?

Okay, I'll admit it. I am right-handed and have been injecting almost exclusively on the right side -- but hear me out. I do vary the spot each time. I am aware of the dangers of scarring and fibrosis. Then I did the math.

Let's say my name is Bob.

Bob has a low-drive wife and he injects, on average, about once a week. That's 52 times in a year -- all on the right side.

Leroy has a high-drive wife and multiple mistresses. On average, he injects at least four times a week but religiously alternates from right side to left side. That's 208 times in a year -- 104 times on the right side, 104 times on the left side.

So here is my question: Is alternating really an issue if I am only injecting about once a week? I mean, in the scenario I offer here, I'm injecting on the right side only 52 times a year, compared to my man Leroy who is injecting 104 times on the right side and also 104 on the left.

This example seems to defeat the whole alternating advice. I think the most important thing is to vary the injection point, no matter which side we use.

You are only 61. If you are in good health and don't have any bad health habits, you could live another 25 or 30 years. Why take the chance of developing scar tissue. I practiced by myself between sessions with wife until I got it to 98% success rate either side.

I'm a bit like Leroy (please call me Roy lol).
I have always tried to alternate sides, but for awhile, I was having trouble giving the shot on one side and injected almost exclusively on the other side. I changed that after reading about injecting closer to the head.
I guess if one develops scar tissue on only one side, it could cause a bend, but who knows?

However minimal the risk of side affects, the standard protocol is to alternate sides. Docs are not going to advise differently for both medical and legal reasons. Although I am right handed, I find it easier to inject on the left side using my left hand. Who knows why? Beyond that, I inject on the left 75 to 80 percent of the time because I've never had a "miss" on the left. The few misses I've had have all been on the right. For whatever reason, I always hit the corpus cavernosum on the left on the first stick and sometimes have to stick and unstick 2 or 3 times before finding the corpus cavernosum on the right. Doc says, "One of those things." Plug in the fact that I inject 5 times per week on average and draw your own conclusions. All the best.

When I was actively injecting (3 times per week) I injected 80 - 90% on the right side because I had too many misses on the left. I did this for two to three years until the injections became less effective. I always tried to change locations as much as possible. Never developed any issues. I have read that less than 10% of those who inject develope fibrosis/scar tissue.

I guess it depends on your tolerance for risk

In the two major trials with both alprostadil-preparations, penile fibrotic
alterations were encountered in 7.5 ± 11.7% of patients during the course of the 4 ± 5 y of long-term
follow-up.

The rates varied for other drugs. Papaverine by itself is much worse.

I think I'll continue to alternate sides although the right side is easier for me.

I would always alternate. I keep a log of injecting and have 4 locations on each side.
I don't see any difficulty right vs left.

Tomas1, what's been your experience with injecting closer to the head? How close? Any difference in quality of erection?

I vary the location. I did about an inch below the head yesterday on the right side. My wife was complaining that I was bigger than usual. Hardly scientific though.

The required needle depth is less near the head, at least for me.

If you are also not switching sides because you feel you have to try to inject using your lefty hand ... no you do not.

For me I just plump up really good and then lay Willy sideways pointing toward right hip or left hip sides still holding/pinning down with the left hand in either case and injecting always with the right hand.

By laying it down rather than the standard stretching out mostly straight out you get a much better 'platform' for seeing what you are doing and your leg/thigh/hip area is supporting the shaft and you can easily see most veins and where the CC is because they bulge a little due to being pressed onto your leg/hip.

Never had a miss ... never ever had to stick more than once.
