Alprostadil - Pain Relief

It would seem that I am one of the unfortunate minority who experience pain during and after the effects of Alprostadil (Viridal). I inject 3 times per week and I use a relatively low dose.

My NHS Specialist Nurse thought that the pain would reduce once I got used to the medication, but there is no sign of that after 2 months. I am not due to see her for another 3 months so I thought it was worth asking in the forum in the meantime.

Does anyone use any effective pain medication; either beforehand or afterwards?

P.s. Trimix not an option in the UK...

Try taking a couple of Ibupropen about 30 minutes before you inject. That may certainly helop psychologically if nothing else. Hang in there.

Nothing that I have found . Double dose of Tylenol extra strength did nothing. Implant day 4-17-18

I experienced the same problem with Aprostadil, unbearable pain, no matter what pain medication I took. Then tried trimix, with the a little bit less pain but still too much to enable me to have pleasurable intercourse with my wife.

All the best with your inplant.

Had an unscheduled call from Specialist Nurse, so here’s an update.

Suggested I try Paracetemol, and if that didn’t work Ibuprofen.
Ibuprofen second choice because of greater bruising risk - also why Aspirin not advisory.

Advised to take 45 minutes before injecting.

I am to contact her if it doesn’t help to discuss other options (Pump)

So far, not much help.

Going to try Paracetemol / Ibuprofen together.

Because of my back injury I take three different kinds of narcotic pain medication twice a day. Despite that, it still hurt like hell when I injected. That's why I stopped. :(

Rich,
Have you tried adding a novelty cock ring to the mix while reducing the amount of alprostadil?

Never found a ring that worked for me in the days before injections.

Do they work differently under Alprostadil?

If using alprostadil you're not trying to make the ring pull the full load or the alprostadil either. They help each other. Don't go too tight with one or you're back to the time limit issue like when using rings with a VED. You will likely have to experiment to find the rings that work for you. It's not a one size fits all type of thing. I usually use the Lyps brand but you'll have to experiment. One guy on here uses velcro. I'm sure the velcro would work but I found it uncomfortable. Another guy uses an adjustable plastic snap together ring. And then there's the adjustable slip bands, but I've never had great success with those. kinda a PITA for me.

The rings may not work for you but they're cheap enough to be worth a try.

Good luck and happy experimenting.
