That is so confusing to me. 14k billed to insurance, but its 29k out of pocket with no insurance? Did that bill only include his fee and not hospital or anesthesiologist?

It depends on where the surgery is done. I think that he uses 3 different places

The costs vary wildly, depending on insurance and facility.
I was implanted Aug 6, through Blue Cross, and they billed $14,800 for the Eid, $15,619 for device?, $3900 for resident doc, and $55,748 for the facility (MEETH) and anesthesiologist? A total of $90,067. But some of those are still pending, so may be adjusted by insurance.

Everything is different when insurance gets billed. I had an MRI a while back that billed insurance $4000. I asked how much if I pay cash- just $500.
56. RARP for prostate cancer in Feb. 17, then no-go with pills, injections, vacuum, so here I am. Titan 20cm by Dr. Eid on 8/6/19, cycling on Day 4, stitches out Day 14, sex with a grateful wife on Day 20. And 21, 22, 23, etc.

Only my opinion. It seems to me that during negotiations between health insurance companies & doctors/hospitals. That the only measurement that the insurance companies can use or do use. Is the percentage of discount that they can negotiate. Thus by raising the published rates a hospital can give what appears to be a bigger discount. Insane, I know. But it sure seems to fit the "logic" between what an insurance company gets billed vs what they actually pay & what a cash customer pays out of pocket.
You would think that eventually this would have to stop. But hey, who knows. As all of this plays out. We look like a bunch of lunatics to the rest of the world.
At the same time. It is to my understanding that the travel south by some wealthy Canadians is brisk to buy selected healthcare that their system says they can't have. I don't have the answer.
