Wishing you the best of luck Jack317! I’m 3 weeks post op. You’ll need lots of privacy for a while. I recommend Mac Weldon boxer briefs. They help conceal the new, at first shockingly big package! Groin hernia was my line as well. Made it through thanksgiving with a house full of inquisitive adult kids;) Good luck and post your progress. You can see my journey pics in the intro section.

Best wishes on making the decision and on your upcoming surgery. I just want to add that I did not need any pain pills at all after I was sent home. I certainly was uncomfortable, but it was completely tolerable. The main thing is to keep using ice to keep the swelling down. Doing that speeds up the healing process so you get past the discomfort sooner.
I am 64 and had ED from a VL. Implanted by Dr. Ronald Anglade in Atlanta on 9/18/17. I have an AMS700LGX 21 cm via a Penoscrotal incision. Very happy with results. 6" soft and 6 3/4” x 5 5/8” hard.

I also managed without using any narcotics. I told my doc that I was a recovering alcoholic with over 10 years sobriety and didn't want to risk triggering any relapse. He assured me that I could get by with OTC pain meds and ice. He was right! It really wasn't that bad. I would describe it as more of a discomfort with an occasional quick sharp pain here and there. I was back at work 9 days later! I am very happy I went thru with this. Good luck!

David_R wrote:Jack, after my prostatectomy in 2000, followed by two years of always soft and fearing atrophy, then an implant inserted in 2002, I am back to my "original" (meaning pre-prostatectomy) length of 5" hard/inflated (and my soft/uninflated length has grown from 2" to 3.5"!). Hang in there, brother.
Wow good to hear. Hoping my results are similar. Regardless as long as it works I will be happy. I am also looking forward to not having the turtle pulling into his shell sensation which makes me crazy.
Thanks!

Thanks and appreciate the input on pain pills. I am a little nervous about it but now have heard from several who have gotten through it without them. I will make sure to ice a lot.

Jack,
You are very welcome. Best wishes on your journey. I look forward to hearing your experience afterwards. Try not to dwell on it until it happens.

Thank you! I am also in recovery almost 30 years but have used pain medication when needed without any issues. Regardless I am happy to hear you and others have made it through without it. I will tough it out too with the ice and Motrin. One question on back to work. As I said I am a construction superintendent so no physical labor usually. I do need to lay eyes on the job and answer questions. If I need to drive to the jobsite once a day which is literally 5 -10 mins from my apartment, take a look around and answer any questions, and then come back home, do you think that will be an issue? I chose the date I did knowing that the week after Christmas is a typically slow time of year and work would be at a minimum. I also live literally right down the street from the Rose Parade route was even wondering if I could walk down the block and watch a little of it.

Re: Merry Christmas to me.
My surgeon recommended I be up and walking as much as I could tolerate after a couple days of predominantly on my back. The j terror of our house allowed me to make a loop so I did that for the first days, but was soon out walking the neighborhood. We all handle it differently.
