Tomorrow is my implant surgery at Vanderbilt with Dr Milam. The surgery is scheduled for 3:10 pm. Will it be painful to walk for the first couple days?

For me, the site itself was very sore. While it didn't hurt to walk per se, I didn't try doing that much because I was afraid of making the pain in the site even worse. Better to take it REALLY easy for the first few days and then easy for a few weeks more. I had my implant (AMS 700 Ultrex at Brigham and Womens in Boston) on August 27 and the site is just yesterday feeling fairly pain free. I'm still pretty cautious about how I sit down and how long I sit in one position. Good luck and take good care.

Best not to do much moving around at all for the first few days....had my implant on 8/6 and really took it VERY easy for about 5 days. The more rest you can get for those first few days will pay off big time in later recovery. And, yes you are going to be sore at first. Be careful of using the oxycodone for very long...I used it for several days and it gave me the worst case of constipation I have EVER had...it's bad stuff. JOE

My instructions were complete bed rest on my back for the first two days after surgery, to help minimize swelling, except for two or three short (15min) walks each day. Then slowly increase activity. For me, walking was not more painful than lying down, except that at day 6 I walked 2 miles, and that caused some increase in swelling and some more pain. I fully second all suggestions to take it easy and increase slowly as your body can take it without much increased swelling. My instructions were that I should be able to make any increased pain and swelling from activity disappear with hot baths and rest. If that didn't happen, then I was doing too much, or else was an indicator of infection. In either case I was to call the Dr immediately.

In Windows. Right mouse click on the pic. Open with Paint. Choose resize from the menu at the top. Change the percentage from 100 to 50 (or less if necessary) in horizontal and vertical. Then "save as" (change the name of the file if you want to keep the original pic).

I agree with Jack, Dr Milam is one of the best. Fixed my peyroines by modeling with AMS LGX 7000 unit. I have a 18x12 inserts with 2cm tips. I am partially infated and over 5". Pain is/was minimul. The worst pain so far was pulling the cathetor out. The first two days were a breeze.

OMG I am more worried and nervous about the damn catheter than I am the surgery! Am hoping the pain meds will still be working when catheter removal is done the next morning. Glad to hear the first two days were easy for you. Keep us posted on your recovery! Jim
