Catheter

Postby SteveTex » Mon Sep 17, 2012 10:16 pm

My surgery is Oct 26th, but I'm curious about two things. My Doc said this was outpatient surgery, so I'll be going home after noon. Has everyone else had Day Surgery for their IPP?

Also, how long is the catheter kept in?

Thanks for any replies.

I thought your surgery was September 26-my birthday! My surgery is outpatient. I will leave with the catheter and go back the next morning to have it removed!

My out patient implant op started at 1:00 pm and I was out the next day around 11:00. The catheter was pulled out about 4:00am. They should keep you for 23 hrs to observe and still be charged for outpatient. At least that is what happened to me.

I had day surgery last Feb. In at 10, out at 3. I had catheter in for 2 days, but normally it would be one. I removed it myself after getting extensive instruction at the surgi-center before I left. It was pain free and a breeze to remove. I know of several others who used the same doc (Dr Eid) who also did self-removal with no problem, after one day. A few people report cath removal is painful. I think that is a small minority, though.

Don't worry about the catheter.

Yes, my surgery is Sept 26th. I had pre-op yesterday at the hospital and talked to the doctor. He said I'd have no catheter after I wake up. Also, the procedure will be about 2 hours and I'll be going home same day after recovery. :)
