Nitinol Heat-Activated Penile Implant

Wondering if this will be worth the wait?

New study from 2019 (nickel titanium is nitinol): https://www.scholars.northwestern.edu/e ... -memory-al

Abstract
Introduction: We describe a novel physiologic penile prosthesis that uses shape memory alloy properties to mimic the transition between a flaccid and erect penis using magnetic induction instead of hydraulic pressure. Aim: To evaluate the parameters of magnetic induction to activate a shape memory alloy implantable penile prosthesis. Methods: We prototyped an implantable penile prosthesis cylinder using temperature-tuned nickel titanium alloy tubes laser cut to specifications. The device was then tested implanted in an animal tissue model and in cadaveric tissue. Testing consisted of placing the device deactivated in its more malleable and compressed state, then activating it using an external inducer wand while measuring temperature changes that occur on the surface of the device, within the tissue, and at the skin surface. Main Outcome Measures: Our main outcome measures were the efficiency of activation and thermal safety of this approach. Results: Using a handheld magnetic inductor, we were able to successfully activate the SMA penile prosthesis with no direct contact under 45 seconds. This handheld wand produced a magnetic field that penetrated tissue and caused the appropriate phase change within the prosthesis. Tissue temperature (middle and surface probes) in the animal tissue model increased only a few degrees Celsius during the activation process, and never exceeded 28 degrees Celsius from a baseline at room temperature ∼ 25 degrees Celsius. We encountered similar results without a notable change in tissue temperature in the cadaveric tests. The fully activated device resisted buckling forces of 2.66 kgf ± 0.045. Clinical Implications: This non-hydraulic shape memory prosthesis obviates the needs for reservoirs and pumps, and the wand-based interaction with the device may be easier to use. Strength & Limitations: This technology represents a fundamental departure from the hydraulic-based penile prosthesis and has comparable mechanical properties as current-marked devices. It appears to show thermal safety in controlled environments, however real-world use would need further studies. Further optimization of prototypes needs to be done prior to human clinical trials. Conclusion: A shape memory penile prosthesis is a promising alternative to hydraulic-based penile prostheses and can be activated safely and efficiently using magnetic induction in our models of the human penis. So what happens on a really hot day? And then if you changed positions would you have to find the magic wand again? And you would need to have the magic wand with you all the time. I guess you can tell I'm not really sold on this idea.

Just my opinion. Many of us will be long dead before this hits the market in any significant numbers. Many of the younger members will miss out on years of sex waiting for it.
Not exactly my field of knowledge. But I think similar memory metals have a limited number of cycles that are possible. Think of rechargable batteries.

Not sure who is retarded here. Either it is me or it's this prototype and its inventors.
Why on earth would I prefer to use a hand-held inducer wand over a pump hidden in my scrotum???
So for a single guy who is having a night out, he needs to bring his wand like fucking Harry Potter?
And then swing it over his dick a few times when wishing to get hard?
?????????????????????

Next issue, which may have a great solution just not mentioned here.
How do I get my dick down?
It gets erect at 40 degrees, which I achieve by swinging my Harry Potter Wand over my dick for X minutes/seconds.
How long does it stay hard?
I guess till it cools down to X degrees. For sure 38 degrees, otherwise we would get hard from a slight fever, maybe even a hard workout.
But how fast does the material cool down? Would we sometimes have sex long enough to let the temperature drop till we get flaccid again?
And then what? We tell our partner that we need to get our magical wand again, mumble Abracadabra, swing it over our dick and then back to fucking again?
And what if we want a quickie? After 5 minutes of intense fucking, the dick still stands erect, because it needs about 45 minutes (or whatever) to cool down enough to go flaccid.
Then we go put our dick in the freezer? Or we have a switch on our Harry Potter wand which can be used to cool our dick down?
Or is it just to bend it and it will go down?

Anyway, the get hard by using a wand is just an absolute laugh, and only preferable for people with physical disabilities making it impossible to use the pump.

But sure, the main disadvantage with the inflatable implant is the pump, the tubing and all the mechanical components which eventually will break.
So the idea is good, but we need a better way to get hard than dressing up to Harry Potter.

The heat-activated implant has nothing in the scrotum; no pump, no valve, no tubing. Also has no reservoir in the abdomen. Essentially it is a malleable that is soft all the time until you wave the wand/inducer. Then it enlarges and gets rigid.

Yep. Timing the de-erection is a question I have not seen addressed by the inventors/researchers.

Keeping it up for an extended fucking session might conceivably be done by the heat caused by friction?  But letting it down after a quickie has not been addressed as far as I know.

I have also wondered, as you did, about spontaneous erection at inopportune times. In a sauna/steam bath? Lounging pool-side in Yuma, Arizona?

Based on the below paper, page 32, it says that nitinol has loading cycles of 40 million. Not sure if this means you can have 40 million erections before it fails, but I trust that the medical researchers have the characteristics figured out.
