Resume work after surgery

Postby AST2123 » Tue Jan 12, 2021 9:36 am

I am having my surgery in a week. Wondering if I will be able to resume work after 48 hours. I work from home, but have to sit 8 hours. I can take breaks. Any advice?

There are many variables/factors. Penoscrotal vs infrapubic approach is one. Everybody's body reacts differently to the trauma of surgery. And it's a pretty invasive surgery. You will probably still be in a compressive dressing at that point. I know that for me personally, I could NOT sit up straight for 2+ weeks because pressure on my perineum caused significant pain. Plus it probably will not help your swelling to be sitting for significant periods of time so soon after surgery. Just my experience/opinion.....

I am sure you will need 48 to 72 hours to stay mostly horizontal.
My surgery was on Wednesday but I stayed overnight and came back home on a Thursday around noon. I was working again on Monday and my day is 10 hrs.I am also working from home. You will feel some discomfort while sitting but frequent short walks in the house will be helpful.

Same here. It will take 2 to 3 weeks to start to feel comfortable. I had to sit through a meeting for about 4 hours a week after my surgery - not good. I think it set me back a few days but all good now.

the usual reommendation is that you take a week off if you have a desk job.

take two weeks off if you have a standing more physical job.

I think if you work from home, and the desk time is less than four hours per day, you can return in 4 days after surgery ?

talk to your doc, mine did not want me in a chair for a couple of weeks, he wanted me in recliner, bed or couch with feet up to help prevent swelling

Then I will plan for 6 days off, and see how it will be like. I waited for this procedure for a long time, and I know that I am going to have a tough whole month. I hope it passes quickly and safely :).
