to implant or not to implant

I have been going back and forth on the implant issue for some time....my logic tells me to go ahead by my emotions block the logic. I would really vanue some informed insight from men who have been in my position. Let me briefly explain:

I have not been able to have a lasting erection, one useful for intercourse, for several years. I am married (separate issues and problems there well beyond the impotence), 59, three kids and in good health. I tried the pills and injections but they did not work. I just dont see me using a pump. The key here is that I do get an erection through masturbation, it is reasonably hard, but I can only get it in certain positions (sitting for instance) and virtually any movement loses the erection right away. I also go soft very quickly after ejaculation. But I can get an erection several times a day in this manner. My urologist figures I have venous leakage by ruling out the effectiveness of everything else. He says testing is pointless and a needless invasion of the body to confirm venous leak.

I have been an avid reader of everything I can find and the thoughts and experiences of all those who have had and have contemplated this surgery are the most meaningful.
I am in NYC and have decided that if I finally do this, I would have it done by Dr. Eid.
So I have a few questions that I would welcome answers or just thoughts about:

1- Any comments, opinions, suggestions about my current state and what I should do about it.
2- Am I missing anything to make an informed decision?
3- I have heard many good things about Dr Eid...does anyone have any negative experiences that they have personally had or have heard about concerning this doctor?
4- I just dont want to lose the little I have now with all this sensitivity talk, shrinkage talk, etc...any thoughts?
Please feel free to ask me anything or to give me any direction, thoughts, encouragement or discouragement.

I will share my personal Implant History in the hope that it will help you reach an informed decision re an Implant.
Please feel free to PM me should you wish to discuss it further.
Just as with me, at the end of the day, the final decision is yours and yours alone.

I developed Erectile Dysfunction Post-Prostatectomy in February 2004.
I was 65 never had a problem with ED prior to my Prostatectomy.
My wife and I were High School Sweethearts and had a long and wonderful sex life until my Prostatectomy in 2004.
Viagra, Cialis, etc. did not work for me.
I had attended a number of Seminars and read extensively about Penile Implants but was still not ready to move forward.
Then I had the opportunity to speak with 2 men who had undergone the Coloplast Titan Penile Implant Procedure and this convinced me that it was the real deal!!
Three weeks later (December 13, 2007) I had my Coloplast Titan Penile Implant Procedure performed at Hackensack University Medical Center in Bergen County, New Jersey by Dr. Hossein Sadeghi.
In retrospect, this was one of the best decisions I ever made.
It restored my sex life and, more importantly, the emotional intimacy with my wife of 45 years.
The normal healing period is 6-8 weeks and my Coloplast Implant does not interfere with any of my
physical activities, including swimming, weight lifting and bike riding.
Actually, your body tissue grows around the Penile Implant and it just becomes a part of you.
I had no complications and both my wife and I are extremely happy with my Coloplast Titan Penile Implant.
Also, since the blood vessels and nerves at the surface of the penis are not affected by the Implant Procedure,
a healthy blood flow is maintained to the penile surface and there is no loss of sensitivity.
Personally, I have more penile sensitivity now than before my Titan Implant.
Regarding Dr. Eid in NYC, I have heard only very positive comments about him and his staff.

I became a Patient Educator for Coloplast in January 2008 in order to share my experiences with the Coloplast Titan Penile Implant with men still suffering with Erectile Dysfunction and its devastating side effects. I know the importance of speaking with someone who has personally experienced the Implant Procedure since this is what gave me the courage to move forward and have it done.

forgive me Bob and please realize this is nothing personal...but doesnt the fact the you are a "spokesperson" for the manufacturer color your judgment? Of course, I realize you could not have mentioned this fact and I thank you very much for the full disclosure....but isnt that sort of asking the chef whats good on the menu? For instance, you mention that blood flow continue to the head of the penis even with the implant and that senstitivity will remain the same or even increase...yet I have read many, many posts both on here and eslewhere which say just the opposite. I have never heard of increased sensitivity or that blood flor remains normal to the head. Any thoughts? I really appreciate any and all information.

I too have a Coloplast Titan OTR, but I am not compensated to say good things about it. I would like to be compensated but that would not change the way I feel. I am truly thankful for my implant and I would readily advise any man to consider implanting if and when the time comes. I have had mine for a year now, but I did not feel completely normal with it for about 9 months. If you had blood flow to the head before implanting, and if your surgeon was skillful, you will probably have it after implanting. I think what Bob was saying is that the penis will feel warm and natural because you will still have the surface blood flow even if you do not have the blood flow to engorge the head. My sensitivity is at least equal to what I had before, and if you have not had a good erection for sometime, I think it will be even greater. I am now completely at ease with my Titan, it is a natural part of me. The only thing that I would change if I could, I would have gotten my implant sooner. Try as I may, I can never make up for lost time.

enjoyed it for the past five years.
You made an excellent point that the skill and experience of the Implant Surgeon is very important.
I wish you a lifetime of pleasure with your Titan Implant.
The reason I became a Patient Educator for Coloplast --- I was so enthusiastic about my Titan Implant that my Surgeon introduced me to the Coloplast Surgical Sales Rep and the rest is History.
I truly enjoy sharing my Implant experiences with men still suffering with ED and its many negative side-effects, both

I can't recommend an implant for you, just point you at good information. I recently, 9 weeks ago, got asn implant and my wife and I are glad I did. We wish we had acted a little sooner.

I am 4 weeks post op on Monday. Dr Eid did the deed. I am more than happy thus far. With one sexual encounter, not intercourse, since the operation. I was supposed to see Dr Eid this Monday, but he had to cancel, now going in two weeks from today. Hoping at that time to get the go ahead to do what we are all here to do again!! If you cant maintain a woodie long enough for intercourse, I'd say go with it. I was the same.

From what I've heard Dr. Eid is great. My uro knows him very well and he has a very great respect for that dr.
As for the implant I can tell you my story. Basically my story is identical to yours - I can relatively easy get an erection, but it will not last any longer that half a minute. Since I am married my case is relatively simple. As soon as I get an erection I just put a very tight constriction ring and here we go. I can perform as long as my wife wants. Well the payback is that I never can finish while the ring is on. However once my wife is happy, I remove it and in few minutes with manual or oral I am done. At that time the erection is weak but it no longer matters as my wife by that time it fighting the desire to sleep .
So for now, measuring all pros and contras we decided to hold and not to do the implant. At least as long as I am able to get an erection naturally. Possibility of infection and length loss is really quite a contra argument so it we have a solution that is satisfactory for both of us why to take a risk to lose everything?

You are doing the right thing and you have given the right advice. There is nothing like the real thing as long as you can do it. No matter what you do to maintain the erection---rings VED injections, et al., that is the best. Dr. Eid is great but still you have the natural feeling of getting hard. At this time I am having trouble with orgasm and have to finish off with manual or oral, as you have mentioned. S

thank you both for your advice...let me clarify a little though. I really cannot get an erection simply from being mentally aroused. My erection is really only possible in a certain position (usually sitting) and through masturbation. Once I have the erection, masturbation to orgasm is not a problem and I can actually repeat this four or five times...but if I stop I go soft extremely quickly...especially if I change position as with standing or lying down. I have not tried rings both because I am not sure whether I could actually use them; that is, getting it on before I go soft...and the few times I have actually tried rings I used the ones that go over the penis and testicles and not only did the attempts hurt, but I could never really succeed in getting it on. I would value some further advice from both of you. On a separate note, I too like to keep all my original equipment, whether it be the penis or a tooth, but I actually have seen very few negative comments about implants and specifically the two areas of concern you mention. I have read very few posts where there has been loss of length (and even though I am quite average in length 5.25-5 1/2 inches when erect)I dont consider a 1/4 inch worth discussing) except in individuals who had previosuly suffered from diseases that affected the penis. And from what I have read the feeling seems to be entirely natursal except for the actual literal creation of the erection. Finally, Eid seems to have zero or near zero rate of infection. Again, I would greatly value your thoughts on these points and thoughs from anyone else on this forum.
