I had a consultation with an implant specialist a few days ago and he told me that a bluetooth-enabled implant that has a battery pack on it is going to be released to the public in four years.

Actually I heard of a remote option similar to a car key fob.

I have a Spinal Cord Stimulator implanted which has a remote, as do thousands of people -- could be what the agent thought it was.

yep....I think the MRI tech just figured most implants (eg, spinal stimulators) have remotes, so, her comment does not mean that there is a penile implant model out there with remote

If I were talking to the manufacturers, I would ask them to ocus efforts on figuring out a way to get the implants to routinely last twenty years. Changes should be made to improve reliability. That usually means keeping things really simple with as few points of failure as possible. Sure, being able to push a button so that the implant automatically goes up over five minutes sounds cool, but not if it is at the price of higher five year failure rate or of less ability to get super super hard. If the hardness, because the pump is drawing on battteries, is limited, then that might mean that the potential girth gain from doing 30 minute daily stretch routines will no longer be possible.

Just like with cars, when a brand new design comes out, it is often a bad idea to get the first or second version of the new product cycle....the manufacturer is still learning about what needs to be optimized...so it is often best to by in the middle of the product development cycle (ie 5 years after product introduction).

We have seen this with titan coloplast. They started with titan genesis pump, and then titan one touch, and then titan touch....these were small tweaks to the product based on learning from failure points of the earlier version.

An orthopedic surgeon once told me, when I asked about some newest greatest hip replacement prosthesis, "you know, joint implants should be treated like parachutes and diving equipment.....it is best to get the highly reliable well known version that is 100% tested and used through years in the field, that way you get predictable reliability"

I'm not so sure that they'd be as good as some ment think. I'm sure that they would have some kind of over pressure protection built into them. To those that like to pump up super hard. This might limit them to a lower pumping level than what you can manually pump to.
Despite the battery being rechargable. They do have a limited rechargable life to them. Those that have wore out their cellphone battery can understand this.
Men already worry about revisions. Now you would have one more thing in your body needing periodic replacement.
Think about the charger. It likely won't be a universal one or even cheap. I can easily understanding a guy needing at least three chargers. One to use, one spare & one for travel or a vacation home.
Men using a CPAP or perhaps diabetics can understand these issues.

Limited pressure, limited erection time, limited number of erections per day, and other safeties could be in play when you health care provider and the manufacturer are in the erection approval loop. Seems silly, but so does suing McDonalds (and winning) because their hot coffee is hot. There will also be a record of erection dates, times, and locations. Might be an issue for some.
