Hey Guys,
I have had my Colplast implant since Dec 19th. Things are going great and I am very happy with my decision. I still have my prostate. My package is so large in the flaccid state that it feels like I can orgasm very frequently as compared to before.
My problem is that I just had an updated PSA the other week. It jumped from 5 last year to 9.26. I have an appointment with my urologist Wednesday. I know he will want another biopsy. I had one two years ago and it was negative for cancer. It feels like there is pressure in the perineal space all the time. I sit at my job and it frequently feels like pressure in this area.
My question is do you guys think the implant can put pressure on your prostate thereby irritating it and then causing an increase in your PSA? There has always been a slight itching feeling in this area since I have had the impalnt. I am paranoid about another biopsy and the possibility of prostate cancer.

It may be a combination of issues ... if your Prostrate is enlarged (it's common) that may be the feeling your are getting? As for Biopsy ... you'll just have to wait and see what the results show. If removal is indicated, the process is not that bad ... think of it this way ... at least you won't have to deal with the ED issues after surgery.

I received an ad for this book. I have not read it and am not connected with the book in any way. But it says there is a new test for prostate cancer that is better than a biopsy.

If I had a high PSA, I would get the book and take a look to see what they say. Don't proscrastinate on checking the high PSA though as cancer is a serious issue. On the other hand, my PSA was in that range, but caused by BPH. My doc removed 80% of my huge prostate by surgery, which allowed them to check really well for cancer and found no cancer. In the 9 years since that surgery my PSA has been less than 1.0.

Also be aware that prostate infection can cause a sensation of pressure and markedly elevated PSAs. Regardless, this needs to be evaluated quickly.

Thanks for the replies. I have an appointment in six weeks for an updated PSA reading. If it is still elevated I am sure I will be having another biopsy. I am already thinking about types of surgery if I have a low grade localized cancer.

I had a PSA of 2.1 in November. In January I had symptoms of infection (slow and frequent urination, uncomfortable pressure, and pelvic pain). I self diagnosed as having prostatitis and went to a walk-in clinic. The PA who saw me freaked out and started talking about prostate cancer. At first he didn't want to give me antibiotics citing a concern that they could "mask" the symptoms of cancer. Either he is an idiot and/or he thought I am! I prevailed upon him to give me a week's worth of Levaquin 750 mg. as it was a Friday morning and my primary care doc's office closes at noon on Fridays. He also insisted on a PSA.
I saw my PCP the next week. I still didn't have the PSA results but he described that instance as "a completely inappropriate use of that test. Clearly he doesn't know how the PSA works." I got set up to see my urologist the next week and he refilled my Levaquin. I had already become less symptomatic.
The day before seeing my urologist I picked up the PSA result and it was 37.8!!!!!! I spent the evening very concerned. My urologist, however was not concerned and stated that cancer PSAs doesn't jump around that way. It's a steady creep. He put me on two more weeks of Levaquin 750 mg. and ordered a follow-up PSA in a month. When I returned my PSA was 1.9.

The moral of this story is that I hope you are on antibiotics and will have that be followed by another PSA because what you have sounds more like infection. If your urologist desn't want to rule out that possibility while you wait around for six weeks to see him/her, you need another opinion.

I am on board with you. I asked my urologist specifically about placing me on an antibiotic for a possible infection. He said he didn't think I had one because on his DRE he said my prostate felt normal. I have never had an enlarged prostate. I question his logic on that. Would an infected prostate always feel enlarged on digital exam? I don't think so. It almost seems like he is determined to put me through another biopsy which I don't mind if needed. It just seems to me that an antibiotic would not hurt.

I have been on HRT, testosterone, for probably ten years. I don't think he likes giving it to me. I may be wrong but I think he wants me off and wants to prove himself right. I came off HRT for four months on my own. I can tell you that the results were devastating in many ways. If I came off HRT it would be the same as androgen deprivation treatment. It would make me menopausal. I would need to retire from my line of work. It would have devastating consequences for me.

I tell you the prostate dilemma is real for us guys in more ways than one. I am the reverse of most guys on the board. I had my implant before any treatment for prostate cancer. My concerns are a little different. I am working my process the reverse of most guys on the board. I am sure all of you who have been through prostate cancer treatment can help tremendously.

If you are getting another PSA in six weeks, there is more than one place to get antibiotics. Or, you could possibly be more inistent with your urologist. Cipro is commonly used but does little for me when I have prostatitis. Levaquin always works for me. Bear in mind, if you get it, that it is associated with an increased risk for ruptured tendons. I reduce the intensity of my workout routine when on it.

I have an appt with my PCP this coming week. My plan is to ask him to put me on it. I like you advice.
