I asked this question as part of a different thread but figured it would be good to start a new thread on this, if there's already one please let me know.
In what ways have implants improved in the last 10 years? Are they more reliable now than they were earlier? Do they offer a better flaccid/inflated look, easier to conceal? Are they easier to inflate/deflate and is the infection rate lower (assuming equally skilled surgeon)?
Improvements in implants
Re: Improvements in implants
AMS has added an antibiotice coating. Coloplast has a porous outer layer that will absorb a liquid antibiotic of the doctors choice for protection.
If you're looking for earth shattering break throughs? Innovation seldom works that way. Improvements are small & incremental. Plus they require FDA approval & coordination with their insurance carrier. In EVERY country that they're marketed in.
I'm sure that there have been several changes that don't get announced to the public. Basically cause the public can't evaluate the changes. So why advertise them.
For whatever its worth. Very few FT members are skilled enough to evaluate any changes that they might of made?

Re: Improvements in implants
It would've been nice if reliability improved. About 2 years ago there were several failures with titan implants cause they used defective material for pumps. It might be a simple thing for them to replace, but has a huge impact on patients. AMS seems to have similar issues but not sure if they root caused it.
Re: Improvements in implants
They changed if I am honest nothing because they dont have to, Coloplast and Boston Scientific own the market, they have nearly the same product and arent interested in changing anything.
An implant last from months to max. 15years and the more it breaks the more they earn money. For example, lets say an implant cost s around 8000$...... If it would last 30years the company earn 8000$ minus the cost s for producing. they make a profit around 7500$ per implant. These are fictitious numbers but I think this will be very near to the real numbers.
So 7500$ earned for a reliable implant....
Compared to an implant which last on average 7years.... some 2 years some 12years but averge 7years. From what I read here is it a real realistic number (and maybe too high).
after 30years with 7years durability the same company doesnt earn 7500$ they earn more than 30.000$. If you have a company, will you rather earn from 1 patient 7500$ or 30.000$. It s called business.
Thats the reason why nothing changed or will change except another manufactor will come and has the intention to earn just 7.500 preferred to 30.000$ from one patient just to help him. And now multiply 30.000$ x all the implant patients world wide . 30years is also a fictitious number but it s just to give a look into it.
If these companies will take lets say 25% of their profit and will invest in research how to make it better than there will be much better implants available!!!! But why should they invest in researching when the result is a lower profit
No one can say to me that there will be now in 2022 nothing better available than what the implants now are
For sure there will be materials available which feels more natural in the flaccid state. Also to produce it so that they last longer and have a more anatomical look. more like a banana cause the penis doesnt look straight like an arrow it looks bent upwards like a banana.
Thats just my opinion but I think with very much truth inside!

Coloplast provides lifetime warranty so it wouldn't be in their interest for the implant to fail right?

When I had the procedure with Dr. Hakky this past June, he said that he had just recently returned from time spent with Coloplast working on improvements to the OTR pump.

Re: Improvements in implants
Well, I think that if they invested in researching materials and improving them, they would earn more money. because? because there are hundreds of thousands of men who need an implant but their main approach and why they do not decide to do it is for this very reason. for the quality of the implant and reviews. that is, for me an implant with better quality would win hundreds of thousands of patients. that's much better than revisions and complications

Re: Improvements in implants
The implant expands up to 25% in length. Pretty big improvement.
