Hi All,
I am 3 weeks out of surgery, and I have a question for those who have been implanted with an IPP.
I go in for my first after surgery check tomorrow morning, so I will get their opinion then, but I would like to know your opinion before I go.
My question is, what is the location of your pump? Has it changed over time, gotten lower, stayed in position or gotten higher?
My pump is way higher than I expected and further to the rear of my scrotum. Mine is easily found when standing, nearly impossible to find when sitting and awkward to find when lying down.
One of the doctor's present for my surgery and who discharged me, said it would be good if you pulled down on the pump from time to time. I posted this question before and most said they had received no instruction like that. I did try to pull down once a day for about a week, but skin my scrotum was getting sore so stopped because I didn't want it sore for my first visit. Someone commented that the pump had adhered to the scrotum wall during healing and had been difficult and painful to free it, I have been wondering if that might be the reason to pull down occasionally.
I would like to know where your pump is and if you like that location or not.
Thank you.

Re: 3 weeks from surgery with pump question
My pump is located between my testicles towards the bottom with the bulb facing 3 oclock. It is easily accessible from the sitting or standing position.

Squirrel,
Is your pump location the way it has always been or has it lowered from where it was initially?

My doc instructed me to gently pull down on the pump every time I peed until my three week appointment. I know what you mean about the skin irritation. I had that too. A little lotion and occasional use of an over-the-counter hydrocortisone itch cream helped with that. My pump has settled at the bottom of my sac in the 3:00 position as well. It’s very accessible from any position, especially when scrotum isn’t tight. Was cleared for cycling and full use at three weeks. My pump has remained in its place now and I’m no longer pulling on it.
Implanted 8/23/22. Coloplast Titan 20cm, no RTE’s, infrapubic. Married 40 years.

I was instructed to tug downwards occasionally and I did. But, the pump has pretty much stayed in the same location and orientation.

robcb1,
For clarification, did your pump end up lower from you pulling down every time you peed? Or was it just time from surgery or something the doctor did for you? Mine is so high right now I don't think it will be easy to use and I have good manual dexterity. I will know more tomorrow; I just want to go in with the most knowledge possible.
Squirrel,
Thank you for your comment.

Re: 3 weeks from surgery with pump question
Mine was low and back between the boys in the beginning. I gently tugged down on it a dozen times a day or so for the first month. It might have came up just a bit but is firmly planted now and is very accessible. Also it is in a position that the release valve is on the sides so it is very easy to grab. As things settle in it gets much easier to get your fingers on it and will definitely get softer and easier to pump as it breaks in. Sorry to say but short of another surgery All you have is what you got. May help to gently pull down on it but by 3 weeks mine was pretty anchored in place. Good luck as things toughen up you can dig around and get it easy enough.

Yes, my pump did end up lower from pulling down on it, and it settled into place between and a little below my testicles. The release tabs are sitting sideways instead of above the pump ball which makes the tabs easy to access for deflating.

Re: 3 weeks from surgery with pump question
I have had three implants in the last twenty two years and all have been different. The first was about the middle of the scrotum which was fine. The revision different surgeon I felt he had left it too high. He kept telling me to pull it down also. I also felt it was attaching itself to one of my testicles. That lasted ten months and the pump failed and they gave me another revision with another surgeon which worked out of the same office. This time I told DR Lee that I wanted the pump at the base of my scrotum and he done just that. He replaced the pump which was an MS pump, he also said the cylinders needed to be pulled more into the gland so the tips would be in further in and he added rte's at the base. He done a fantastic job because everything has been perfect now. This was done about tow or three years ago. Time fly's and to me it is not that important of keeping track of exact dates.
But in my experience with implants, the pump is best at the base of the scrotum because if it is too high when you pump up it looks like a ball at the base of the shaft.

Re: 3 weeks from surgery with pump question
My pump is between my testicles, hangs pretty low. Never had any issue with position and never had to pull it down.
The first couple of months out of surgery I was sore when using it but think that's normal.
