What to tell people?

Postby Steve5231 » Thu Oct 13, 2022 6:22 pm

I’m scheduled for an implant 10/21/22. Just wondering, what did you tell friends and family as to why you were out of commission for a while? Also, how long was your recovery from the date of surgery until you could actually move around?
75 years old. Was on Viagra and then Cialis but got fed up with the side effects. Switched to Tri-Mix 3 years ago but had increasingly reduce effect. Finally implanted 1/19/2023. Always looking for advice. Live in Illinois.

I told them I was having a hernia operation. Everyone seemed to buy that.

I didn't go for a walk beyond my yard for four days, and I wished I had gone sooner. I was surprised by how much strength and wind I lost in just those few days.

Steve,
I told as few as possible that I had anything done, if you find you have to say something to someone, just use the hernia repair, pretty close to the same location. I watched one implant video on YouTube and when the surgeon was asked, he told them to say it was a hernia.

Your doctor will probably give you limitations on how much he wants you to lift, my instructions were 6 lbs. max for 8 weeks! I have had to tell a few people I can't lift that because I had surgery, most just say, "Oh, OK" others you know better will say for what. Just get your story straight with your partner so you aren't giving contrary information.

Walking will be your first activity, your body will tell you how much to do. The anesthetic affects your body for about 3 days so take it easy for at least that long. Also, I was given the "no sitting upright with your feet on the floor for 6 weeks," trust me you will not want to, but even after you can limit yourself to no more than an hour at a time.

If you can lay flat for the first two days, it keeps the swelling down. They told me lay flat, lay in a recliner or walk, nothing else.
Used Viagra & Cialis until lost vision in one eye due to AION, therefore can never use pills again, then tri-mix 1 1/2 years until unreliable. Implanted 9/20/22 at 77 years old by Dr. Yafi, UC Irvine. Married 55 years wife 76. 20cm Coloplast Titan.

I just told people that I had a personal elective surgery related to my previous prostatectomy. My wife and Doctors are the only ones that I knew or told.

Just thinking out loud here. At 74 you can just say that you wanted to stay close to home for awhile & watch the seasons change.
For what little its worth. I don't have friends or even my kids follow my where abouts that close. A month ago my daughter called & we was chatting. Finally asked where I was. I said Las Vegas. 500 miles from my home. She was surprised but good with it.

Being retired made things easier, since there weren't co-workers or an employer to deal with. Other than my husband obviously knowing, I told 4 people what was happening. All were understanding and supportive. I'm not shy about my implant.

If anyone asked, I said I got an implant to correct the nerves I lost with the RP. Then I ask them if they want to see it. I am proud of my new dick. WTF it is a prosthesis, Just like a replacement for an arm. Or a new ball socket for a warn out hip.
