What have people told their families?

Postby Exspecto » Sat Feb 04, 2023 7:22 pm

Hi
As per my earlier post, I'm due for an implant on 7 Feb. We've made arrangements but are being asked by the family why I'm going to hospital, what's wrong, am I Ok? etc etc

I'm reaching out to find out what people have said to others and if being open about the implant, what their reaction was?

Thanks!
Type 1 diabetes for over 45 years. ED for 12+ years. Oral initially effective but failed a few years ago. Tried gel and then Caverject injections with limited success. Now developing Peyronie's disease. Opted for a Titan, to be fitted 7 Feb 2023. Age: 57

Nobody knew except my significant other and she drove.

I was only at the hospital for about 5-6 hours. Why would you need an excuse for that short of a time period?

I had this talk with my oldest son last night. He lives in Houston, and we're going to visit them for a few days and then I'm going to stay in Houston for the surgery. I called and just told him that I had done some research and found that Houston is a hotbed for quality urological care, and it seems I need to have a little something done down there with the boys. I told him I interviewed with my local Kaiser doc (which I did) and since the surgery was adjacent to some important assets I looked around for someone I felt more comfortable with. I didn't feel the Kaiser doc would be the best option.

I stressed to him that it was outpatient, I wouldn't even be admitted to the hospital, but I'd hang around Houston for a couple of days in case there was something that needed to be followed up on.

He immediately asked if it was cancer, and I assured him it wasn't. Just a little plumbing work for an old guy like me, I won't even be under general anesthesia. He then remembered how much it hurt to laugh when he had a hernia surgery, and cautioned me about laughing.

That was it, no more was said and no more will be said. I read on FT someone that told friends and family that he was having a cyst removed. If I had been pressed more, that's what I was going to say. There's NO WAY that unfamiliar people would think that a penis implant can be an outpatient procedure.

We told our family nothing at all. Nobody knew we were going to the hospital and nobody knew I was recovering from surgery. We have many children and grands, but we keep our private business private.

I'm guessing the people saying they told no one are retired. I had to take 4 weeks off of work so there were lots of concerned people asking questions.

Is taking 4 weeks off work common? Many seem to suggest they were able to go back to work after 2 weeks?

Only told one person in the family, it became unavoidable, but just said it was a hernia repair and there were no more questions.

I told my sister & my GF.

Only told my sister because I gave her my power of attorney for heath care (ie, advance directive) since I was going to be put under general anesthesia & staying overnight at the hospital.

I gave my sister all the gory details, including links to articles, photos & videos because she needed to know in case anything went wrong.

My GF & I stayed at a motel the night before surgery l. We used her car to drive there from my home I dropped myself off at the hospital & drove myself home when she picked me up.

Didn't tell the GF as much asI told my sister. Only told the GF what was going on in general w/o the links to articles, photos & videos

No need to tell anyone else, not that there was anyone else to tell

Length of time off of work is highly variable. If a guy has plenty of sick time available to him. Why would he try to cut it close. Easier to go back early than to ask for more time off.
Btw, close reading will show some guys took off less than 2 weeks.
