Full recovery time to active leisure travel

Postby JakOBson » Wed Apr 26, 2023 7:17 am

Hi everyone.

Just trying to understand the post-surgery healing timeframe before I could comfortably have a fairly active holidays (intercontinental flight followed by some hiking, driving 4wd across savannah, etc.).

What're your own experiences?

Many thanks in advance.

Healing time really varies with each person. You'll probably need at least 2-3 weeks to feel like moving around, and a couple months to feel like tackling heavier activities.

Old Guy is right on the money, if you have a penoscrotal install, that is what I had and I didn't feel real comfortable until around 6 or 7 weeks for heavier activities, like long walks/hikes and road bike cycling.

Now for the folks that have the infrapubic install, most guys recover quickly in a time period of 2 to 4 weeks. One of the guys that I'm in contact with was back to Road Bike cycling in 4 weeks.

Hope this helps,

I agree that this varies. I don't know about your level or duration of 4x4 travel but I waited 5 months for a trip I took. It was 10+ hours a day in rough sometimes rock crawling for a week to 10 days and it was a bit uncomfortable. The pump bounced on the seat and made the inside of my scrotum sore. Some padding may help. I don't do supper extreme trails but I don't avoid difficult ones. Trails like Williams Pass and Iron Chest in Colorado and Hotel Rock and Hole in the Rock trail (west side of lake Powell) are in my upper end of difficulty. When I go out I live out of my suv. Either sleep in the truck or a tent. Just hit a town ever few days for fuel and shower and supplies.
