I consulted initially with Dr. Perito and was about to go with him. He told me that i would indeed need to pull the pump down, which did not sound pleasant at all. Of course, the idea of the penoscrotal method made me cringe as well. Because my insurance wouldn’t pay, and because i became convinced he was indeed highly skilled, i went with Dr. Clavell. $21,000 vs $31,000 out-of-pocket with Dr. C.
i think from what i read here infrapubic vs penoscrotal surgies generally have faster recovery times.
I don’t mean to sound like i’m rubbing it in here because some of you guys are describing some pretty uncomfortable situations with your pump. All I know is that my pump was perfectly placed. Sits low in the aft part of the scrotum, forward of the perinium. It is undetectable to the naked eye, and though the first 2 months were uncomfortable when sitting, now i don’t notice it whatsoever.
Even the angle at which the pump rests was ergonomically perfect such that my right hand aligns with pump alignment as i grasp it.
One thing consistent on the forum if we read back several years is guys writing with alarm over various issues, “adhering” to the scrotum, glans pain, shape issues, have given quite a few cause for alarm. Thing is, these are generally written within the first 12 weeks of recovery.
The good news seem to be that the vast majority of these concerns seem to self resolve with time. Everybody’s recovery is unique. Try to relax with the knowledge that if you’re one of the guys experiencing a higher level of discomfort that many before you have been here with ultimately good results.
As always, talk to your doctor. just one guy with an option, and a story.
