Subpar Quality of Implants

Postby waiting4nitinol » Tue May 23, 2023 12:18 pm

Hello wonderful community of FrankTalk. I'm a new member here and I'd like to talk about my issues with the implants currently available and get some of your thoughts.

In my opinion both the malleable and inflatable implants are of subpar quality with very significant drawbacks. Malleable implants are reliable and easy to use but the issues with them are the permanent erection, concealability and the risk of erosion. While inflatable implants don't typically have these issues, the problems with them are their unreliability and finite lifespan. They are advertised to last 10-15 years but there seems to be many guys who have had multiple implants break after such a short time which makes me skeptical of this claim.

I know the counter argument for this is that we don't hear about the guys who have implants for a long time as they have moved on with their lives. That may be true but regardless, inflatable implants have a finite lifespan and are pretty much guaranteed to fail at some point. With these eventual failures brings more revisions surgeries, higher expenses and increased risk of infection. This is particularly a big issue for young guys and it is probably the main reason why it is such a difficult decision to commit to an implant. If there was an implant that wouldn't or would be unlikely to break, maybe something like the heat-activated nitinol implant for example, perhaps getting an implant wouldn't be viewed as a last resort anymore and more guys would be willing to get one.

Don't get me wrong, it is good that these implants are an option but I can't help but feel very disappointed that the best implant available is one which is based off a 50 year old hydrualic system and it is not clear when future technologies will be made available. I think we need much better implants to become available the sooner the better. Hopefully my view doesn't offend or upset anyone as I know you guys love your implants, but I would like to hear others' thoughts on this.

Anyone else here holding out for better options to become available before getting an implant? Guys who are already implanted, are you happy with the current state of implants or do you think there needs to be more advancements?

Unhappy with current implants, waiting for something more advanced

In my opinion, a lot of post on this forum are people looking for info pre implant and post implant including problems they may have or think they have. This forum probably only represents a few percent of all men with implants.

The members who posted here when I joined no longer post here. Yes implants do fail just like everything else. How long it will last? Who know but I took the chance, I’m working 5 years now and if I does fail before I’m in my grave, I’ll get a new one

I love my implant (Titan). Before I could usually get hard, but even with pills my erection often disappeared during sex. Now I get hard whenever I get want and stay hard as long as I want. I can imagine some future science fiction technology that might be better, but I'm guessing that anything new will be years away because I don't hear even rumors of cool new tech. So I'm glad that I made the decision to go ahead and move forward with today's technology.

My thoughts? One can always imagine better technology. I wish my phone's battery lasted a week. I wish my car could fly! I wish I could vacation on the moon. Fantasize, sure, but meanwhile, enjoy the world we live in.

What's your story? Did you get an implant and now you are disappointed in it? Or maybe you want an implant but are holding out for better technology?

I am happy with my implant. It isn't perfect but nothing is.

I participated in a survey on wireless technology for implants. It is still going to be years before approved by the FDA.

If you think about it they will change what I consider to be the side issues. You still need a pump but rather than squeezing a ball, you will use an app. Deflate will be via an app instead of 1 or 2 buttons.

But remember the most important part, the 2 inflatible tubes in your shaft isn't going to change.

When they come with a cure for ED and the replacement of an implant, then we are talking. Up to that point, it is like buying new features on a newer model car. Still the same basic car.

May I point out that your natural penis had a finite lifespan. I don't see your age but you imply that you're young. Your natural penis did fail after perhaps 20 years, maybe less. Thus you are investigating a "revision" of your natural penis at lots of money. Btw, literally every month we have new members saying that their ED started very young. Some even say under 20.
How about explaining to me just how bad the current implants are? Please relate this explanation to how old you was when you started to need pills. Because that is when your natural penis started to fail.
Some complain about a warranty on implants. Have you tried using a warranty on your natural penis?
Reality is that lots of younger members complain about implants but their natural penis had the same limitations as what they're complaining about.

for me this implant really sucks, we are stuck at 40 years ago, there is no will to invest in erectile dysfunction or the researchers are ignorant, the implant urologists like this situation, every break other operation, this implant is full of problems even when it's going well, ovalization, glans that doesn't swell, tadalafil or viagra that you keep taking despite the implant, only those who had zero are happy, urologists are so ignorant that they don't know or don't want to do injection therapy at least in Italy, they find the excuse that if you want an implant it becomes difficult to insert it, nothing could be more false, I've seen a lot of people here who have calmly taken the implant after the injections, therefore, my advice is not to take a implant if you are not at zero after trying everything

From what I’ve been able to glean, if you want to wait for a technological leap and not incremental improvement in implants, you’re going to be waiting for a long time. Even minimal improvements are probably a few years away still. If you can manage your ED without an implant, then it sounds like you can wait. In my case, once I determine the implant is the only way forward for me, that’s what I’m going for without delay. Life doesn’t wait.

I think the biggest problem of implants are infections and the terrible consequences of it. Especially with revision surgeries which have a way higher chance of infection. I wouldnt mind doing even 10 surgeries of implants in my lifetime if I am sure that I will never get an infection. But just a small bad luck or a mistake by the surgeon and you are totally fucked then. Few posts below is a post of a 30 year old man who had an infection and is stuck with a micro-penis now after remaining 6 months explanted to clear the infection.

With that being sad ,injections are garbage especially when you are a young guy and ready to get married. No spontanity at all. I will use them for a few years until I get to 30 years old and do the implant
Venous like since I was 20 years old. Pills don't work too well. Thinking of implant in the future

I was implanted in April and have had an erection ever since i left the surgical room . I'm so thankful for my month long erection because for the last 20 years an erection wasn't a certainty. Sometimes I would attain one through pills or injections but even those would sometimes fail me . I'd draw a comparison to the drought the West Coast has endured for the last 20 years .This year they got hit by giant storms called " atmospheric rivers ". Nobody complained about the rain but were thankful for the water. The reservoirs were filling up again and the people of the West Coast got a much needed reprieve. That's how I feel about my implant. It my not be perfect. It may not last forever but for right now I'm thankful for it . It's giving me a much needed reprieve. As far as the design.. well sometimes we just get it right the 1st time . Look at the wheel, it's been around some 5 thousand years with little to no change . The wheel is still doing the job it was designed for . Maybe the 3 piece implant isn't perfect, but it's pretty damn good at doing the job it was designed for
