I live in a country that has excellent public healthcare. I can get heart transplant or cancer surgery for free. But the healthcare does not cover implant. We have also health insurances but there is no sense to pay for that. The situation is the same in many other European countries. So implant is paid by the patient. In some cases a young man with diabetes or some else severe situation might get implant covered by healthcare but that does not include me anymore. I was born in a wrong time.
65 yrs, had venous leak all my life, sildenafil and other pills don't work anymore properly, using Caverject with pills.

the implant is like a mosquito that circles around you and that you cannot catch, you feel it inside you, even if many here say that it becomes part of you, you feel that it is something they have put in you, and that you would rather not have it it was, but you accept it, especially those who had zero, those who had something like me, it takes a bit of effort, but now you can't go back, you're forced to accept it, you'll get over it, in the end it has pros and cons against, I was able to see for myself that not everything is as good as it is described on this forum, and I was able to see that it is not all bad as someone who reads this post might think, in the guidelines the system is the last resort, not believe the implantologists who push to get you an implant ahead of time, by now implantologists have become profiteers, they mount the device that brings the most money in their pockets, years ago they said they mounted the type of device based on the patient's anatomy, nothing more false

I got implanted because pills were unreliable, but I didn't try any other solutions besides Viagra and Cialis. No injections, pumps, or whatever. I'm thrilled with the result! Unlimited hardness whenever I want it.

In the old days, the "official recommendation" was apparently that you shouldn't try an implant until you had tried everything else. But more recently, that has changed. They still recommend pills first, but beyond that, an is considered a reasonable choice whether or not you have tried the other things. (This is based on the guidelines from the American Urological Association.)

I think the phrase "last resort" is used in two ways. One means that something is risky and shouldn't be tried until every other option has been tried. Like, amputating a leg is a big deal, and you shouldn't do it if there is any reasonable alternative that might save the leg. In the old days, I think that implants were thought of like this. But that's changed. For me personally, it seemed like implants were a better solution. I didn't want to screw around with injections that needed to be refrigerated and planned ahead of time. I wanted the freedom and flexibility of solution that works any time, any place.

The second meaning of "last resort" is simply that it's the last solution you'll need to try. Once you have an implant, there's no going back to pills, injections or whatever. Your penis doesn't work that way any more because the implant replaces the body's own mechanism for making the penis hard. (Some people use pills for the glans, but that's a different issue. No need for pills to get hard.)

An irreversible surgical treatment is never the first option when other alternatives are available. Lots of men are fine with pills for a long span of time.
When you have a chronic health problem "disappointment" before finding a solution is preatty normal. Think about all the people who can't fix depression, backpain, diabetes, etc. Life is unfair. Be happy if you fixed a big problem forever only after some years of disappointment and enjoy what you've got.

Well, it is reversible, you take the implant out. And what little function you had is now even worse. For me it was a no brainer, even if i had to chop it off, I couldn’t enjoy it, no biggie if it didnt work. But the implant does work at a high 90s success rate, it worked for me and is WAY better than I could of ever dreamed of.

It makes sense to kick the bucket on pills but if your erection isn't satisfactory with that, I think the implant should definitely top of mind.

I don't have an implant yet so can't fully speak on it but I think it's just scary to people because you can't go back. It would help normalize and get over fear if implant wasn't always labeled as this ominous "last resort."

I'm trying to make sure it's the right decision personally but limping along with pills does not seem ideal when an automatic, hard, long-lasting erection solution is available.

I also think doctors try to play devil's advocate sometimes so that you don't have cold feet or buyers remorse as well.

But I'm starting to think the fear and hesitation with implants is less warranted than reality. You guys tell me.

For me, the implant is just better. I would take it over my natural dick any day of the week… and at any point in my life, the implant is better. Now if i had my recovery time, like 18-40 with an implant, omg, that would be the best of both worlds. I used to be able to orgasm 10-15 times a day, now two is tuff.

10-15 times a day?
