Going On Year 4 With PFS - Seeking Advice

Postby runaway11 » Sat Jan 20, 2024 12:32 pm

I want to start by thanking you all for posting your valuable experiences on this board. Much respect and gratitude. For the first 37 years of my life I had what I would describe as a perfectly functioning penis that was always there for me when I needed it. I could have an erection at the drop of a dime whenever and for as long as I wanted. I got out of a long relationship in 2018 and had great sex while dating in 2019 and 2020. At the end of 2020, after being on finasteride for roughly 10 years, I woke up one morning and had zero feeling in my penis. It was like it was not connected to my body at all. This was the beginning of a severe PFS crash where I dealt with all of the mental, physical and sexual effects of PFS. For many years the psychological effects were so bad that I never thought I would be in a relationship again so I gave up hope and assumed I would live the rest of my life alone. The guys on the PFS forums are so doomy and hopeless and I figured that would be my fate as well. I then came across FT and now have renewed hope after seeing how implants have impacted your lives.

Over the past year I have been able to get the depression/anxiety under control and I’m now starting to think about how I could have a normal sex life and be in a relationship. I own a successful company and I’m in great physical shape but sexual function is the missing piece. I have tried shockwave therapy, TRT, HCG, apomorphine, PT-141 amongst many other things. All seem to work for 1 day and then ED comes right back. I’m currently on 5mg daily tadalafil. I have spoken to 2 of the high volume surgeons that are often mentioned on FT. This first told me that with PFS the issue is with my brain and nervous system and my tissue is healthy enough that I should be able to get an erection if I stack Viagra on top of Cialis. Being a 40 year old single guy, it’s the thought of having to take multiple medications and timing them perfectly that prevents me from dating. Too much stress and drama. Sex is supposed to be fun and enjoyable!

I recently spoke to another high volume surgeon and he said I’m absolutely a great candidate for the implant. His feeling is that I’m 40 yo and already lost 3 years of my life. If ED is taking a toll on me psychologically and preventing me from living a normal life then I should consider the surgery. I see a lot of the PFS guys on FT say that they waited 10 years to get the surgery and they wish they would have done it sooner. I can’t wait 10 years and try starting my life over in my 50s. What’s holding me back is that I technically can still get an erection if I take enough meds and I know that everyone says the implant should be the last resort.

Any advice? Should I get the implant or just suck it up and deal with the meds and all of their side effects?

My feeling is if you cannot get and maintain a sufficient erection for enjoyable sex things need to change. Pills and injections are fine IF you are in a relationship and don't care if you have to plan sex. I always thought about the long-term side effects of pills and injections too and wasn't happy having to use them. The implant is always ready, although on a one night stand you may have to hide when you inflate. But after I almost guarantee your partner will mention how wonderful sex is.

I'll keep it short n sweet. 3 years ED post prostrate removal. Extremely depressing, anxiety etc. On meds for cancer and have zero testosterone soI shouldn't even have a drive. I was 1.5-2 inches those three years. 14 months in and sporting a still growing 6L 6G.
I couldn't be any happier. High libido here too. Years ago I thought all was lost. I say do it. GL to ya.

I appreciate this response and completely agree. My sentiment would be different if I were in a relationship and able to plan sex. It's the spontaneity of dating that seems so daunting with medications. Having to pump and inflate brings on other issues but most seem to able to do it with without their partner knowing.

I really don't know, but Google said:

PSF stands for Posterior Spinal Fusion. The PSF technique, often utilized for the thoracic or lumbar spine, can be performed through an open incision or a minimally invasive surgery (MIS) incision. An open incision is a midline incision that is typically larger in size.

I Faught ED for over 10 years and it got much worse the last couple years of the pills and shots were a nightmare. That being said, I’ve been married now for 37 years to the same woman and my ED about ruined our relationship with the constant going limp and the depression it put on me. After implant it took 6-8 months to reprogram my mind. I’ve always through if I were single I would have been able to get over the mental aspect much quicker as my wife was constantly down about my ED mostly blaming herself. That’s a whole other story. My point is if it causing stress and frustrations than it’s probably time to get it done. Most likely you’ll never regret it and life will be back on track!
59 years old ED started mid 40s pills failed after 10 years. Injections works but diminishing results with pain. Implanted 5-22 Baylor,Scott, and White Dallas.Dr Michael Wierschem, infrapubic Coloplast 20cm and 1cm RTE. Going strong and loving it!
