New 46 yr old man very concerned of future

Postby meditate » Mon Dec 02, 2013 5:45 pm

Hi Guys,

I am new to this board but have been reading many of the forums related to implants. I have had Peyronies for about 3 years now with accompanying ED, I don't think things are severe enough yet for an implant but feels as though I am heading down that road. The emotional ups and downs daily are brutual and basically depends on how successful my last love making session or masturbation session went. The level of joy in my life has all but disappeared even with all of my spiritual background I have survived testicular cancer and have gone through many other challenging situations but this one has me thinking some really extreme things at times. I have spent thousands on treatments and am still trying for instance endostimulation, low energy shockwaves, stem cell treatment, etc. The bottom line is things get better but then eventually seem to get worse so I am just trying to prepare myself for the possibility of an implant. I do have a girlfriend and she is incredibly supportive but I don't know if I will be with her forever and don't want to stay with her because of my fear.

Have you men recovered psychologically after having a successful implant surgery? For the single men out there how have you adjusted to life with an implant; I am fully aware that how we feel about ourselves is of the utmost importance as opposed to any one else but nevertheless answers to this question I will value. Thanks so much, I feel that there is incredible wisdom to be found in whatever happens!

Peace

I had mine a little over 5 months ago. It takes a few weeks to get use to the idea that this is the new you. I did the pills for a few years. Did the injections twice. Ended up in the ER with wood that would not quit on New Years day 2012. You can read about it over in the injections forum. Developed Peyronies rather suddenly about a year ago which made things unusable. Stated looking into implants about this time last year. Did my research and decided to go with Dr. Kramer in Baltimore and to not waste time wondering what to do. Things were not going to get better, they were always going to get worse, so like my name implies... I took action.

Its sure as heck not the dick that I had when I was 25 or 30, its not even the one that I had when I was 40, but it is 1,000 times better than the one that I had at 49. My wife and I can now have sex as often as we want without worrying about taking a pill 30 min before and waiting for it to kick in. No more packing enough pills for a weekend trip. It works when I want it to. Its not everything it had been,but it is dependable as hell.

I am 50 and the older I get, the less things bother me. I roll with the punches. This was a heck of a punch to the mind, but I got back up in more ways than one and just keep on going. I think this might freak out a girl friend who is in her 20s but by the time they are 40+ they have their own self image problems that they are dealing with. By this time in they need to realize that crap happens to people. If it bothers them, then that is probably not the person you want to be with anyway.

I am single and have an implant. Psychologically, I feel great. Only regret is I wish I had it done sooner

Thx guys the replies are very much appreciated. I am at the point where I am still getting treated to try to save my original member but the anxiety of when it will fail during sex as well as the nerves of preparing to get intimate knowing the session may be a challenge due to ED is becoming emotionally devastating, I live in daily fear of what is to come of my life, Masturbation has become a fearful event for me! I keep hearing and reading that many men wish they had done it sooner, well I guess I shall see!! I used to love sex and now things have changed!

Read a lot of posts on FT and I think you will find most men have the same results. A lot of frustration with ED before the surgery. Then after the surgery and recovery period no frustration, no anxiety, and the pump and your dick work every time on your command with a session lasting as long as you and your partner both want it to. A few guys have problems with the surgery but that is a very small percentage, about 1 or 2%. The others are all very happy with the results.

Best wishes,
Dave

The frustration and the inept feeling of not being able to have sex takes a toll. The implant gives back that ability! It's expensive and a bit uncomfortable for several weeks but I'm looking forward to a full filling sex life for many years to come. If you can still get satisfaction form oral medication or other methods, I would stay with those. This was the last option for me. Get a good Doc and go for it

others before this reply basically said it all already very well.

I had my implant last Monday Dec. 9, never tried all the other options.
Did my research, wanted no side effects or artificial "planning of sex".
Thus I discussed it with my doctor and amazingly enough he concurred;
the implant is the best option to return to normal expectations.

My recovery from surgery is astounding. Have zero pain 2 days after surgery
and some swelling which is normal. It is important to take it easy for a week;
just rest and sleep and ice-bag the area. Hope this helps a little.

W,
Scrotum approach? Seems that most still are, perhaps pubic approch cuts more tissue/muscle, but then maybe just the surgeons not wanting to change what has worked for them. billy

i can really relate to the emotional ups and downs. oral medication worked very well for me for over 15 years and then all of a sudden it stopped working. i was in a brand new relationship and although she was very cool, my inability to perform really gave me (or i gave myself) a beating. i tried all the alternatives before electing an implant. really glad i made that decision. my confidence level and self esteem have been restored.

My question is why is it so often in medicine that the best option is the last resort? I'll join the chorus and say that I wish I had my implant ten years ago.
I am sixty-six years of age and dealing with gradually worsening ED for twenty years. At sixty-three I wanted something that worked reliably. I got an AMS 700 LGX implant in 6/25/13. I am entirely pleased with the outcome. My surgeon was Dr. Karpman.
