I previously posted what I thought the total cost of the implant is with medicare.
Way more than I stated.
I will update when the total bill is realized.
$ way more than I thought.

Implanted with colorplast Titan 3 years ago. Davinci radical prostatectomy 6 months ago. Very happy with the outcome of both procedures.

Re: $ way more than I thought.
I've just gotten the insurance claim information on my implant on 12/3/13, total of just over $41,000. Total cost to me - $0 as I had already met deductibles and out of pocket for the year.
Re: $ way more than I thought.
Hi,
Wow that's gotta be a relief. I have United Healthcare and I too met the co's & deduct's but getting appointments done at the years end can be difficult. For anyone doing this procedure with a high deductible plan this is the way . I noticed Flexible Spending accounts , once allowed to go $5,000 are now only allowed to fund to $2,500- further creating hardships on people trying to pay for expensive procedures

Re: $ way more than I thought.
Finally got the hospital bill info.
The hospital billed medicare for $70,077. Seems high for 4 hours in outpatient surgery.
Medicare paid $11,410. I may be billed $1184 medicare says.
Since the hospital and doctor accepts medicare assignment I don't think I will be billed.
I got a total knee replacement at the same hospital a couple of years ago under medicare and was not billed for anything. No bills yet and it has been 8 weeks.
I will update if I am billed.

The hospitals go through a charade where they bill a huge amount and then the insurance company or Medicare pays only a fraction of that and the hospital then lowers the final bill to what the insurance specified was acceptable. One should not be concerned about that the initial huge amount indicates anything about what you will pay. If you have no insurance and are paying the bill totally yourself, you should negotiate with your hospital before the surgery to make sure you don't get hit with the huge bill.
