I recently confirmed that my tubing is likely fractured and fluid has leaked out. I was offered a complete removal and replacement vs. possible pump only switch. The surgeon suggested a complete removal replacement saying the infection risk is a little lower, but the tradeoff would be slightly more recovery (similar to my prior procedures). I'm getting very good use with the implant although it has only been 3 years with this one, so expected the wear/tear.
Anyone else got any info on this infection risk? Should I be considered pump only exchange?

Re: infection risk with revision
infection is always an issue and last year when I swelled up like a balloon 3 weeks after a mallabble implant they thought I had an infection which in the end I did not .. but was told then you can have an infection as long as 3 years later ..just some food for thought .. if it were my dick I'd due the full implant if I'm going to take the risk to be cut at all ..

I agree, do the full implant, going to cut you anyway, I was paranoid as all get out about an infection with my revision, antibacterial soap, Clorox and water mix next to the toilet, and a piss bottle that I still use because it's clean and I'm not pissing all over the place. I kept my scrotum good and clean and I would put some antibacterial cream on it every other day, wanted it to also get air to heal. It took less than a month to completely heal together. As far as black and blue, I had none at all, and the swelling was mild and went away in a week and a half, I am still sensitive when I pump, but it is getting better everyday. The key there is ice,ice ice, It has been a month this week since my revision, I would do it again if I had to, worth it to me.

Thanks all - after speaking with a few others, I think I will follow through with the doctors recs and proceed with removing and replacing all the pieces of the implant. Scheduled for surgery in 6 weeks. Painful waiting though especially since the wife and I have been so active this summer. Have upcoming European vacation in winter so hoping I will be all good to go by then.

Re: infection risk with revision
Infection risk is higher with revision surgery because the bio film that surrounds all the components of the device will have a lot of bacteria in a percentage of men. When I had my repair, my doctor did cultures of the bio film fluid of every part of my device that was disturbed. All of my original parts were reused. All my cultures were negative. But had they been positive then special antibiotics for whatever bacteria grew in the culture would have been given to me. This includes the tubbing, cylinders, pump, and reservoir. I wanted all new parts as I was over 3 years on my components, but insurance said no.
Risk of infection is highest right after surgery and reduces over the first year. After one year the risk of infection will always be the same very low risk.
