Skydiving with Implant.

Hi. I’d just thought I’d bump this just in case there are skydivers with an implant.

Coloplast state there are no contraindications with pressure changes or any activities.

However, it would be good to contact someone who regularly skydives, paraglides or wears a body harness like perhaps a climber?

what is your concern?

There are no contraindications for altitude or diving pressures. Are you concerned that a harness would interfere with the implant components? In my experience, if a harness were to interfere with any component of your implant, you are wearing it wrong.

Pilots with implants routinely fly at much higher altitudes than you would ever go while skydiving, even in aircraft that are not pressurized. If an extremely durable synthetic implant would suffer from recreational underwater diving pressures or altitude, other organs in your body would be affected long before an implant would be.

Prior to my implant I've worn a fall protection harness a few times. I'm guessing that a parachute harness fits your crotch area in a similar manner. I drive over two mountain passes many times a year. Both are about 6,500 feet in elevation.

Thanks for replies. I guess I know ‘on paper’ the company say it will be fine. I’d just be good to chat to someone who says hey yep - skydive with it all good.

Initially I was a little concerned about the pressure change but as my implant has been healing (amazingly well and quick) at 5.5 wks.

The only issue is the reservoir tubing has ended up sitting a bit high on the left hand side of the base of shaft. (You have to press down a little to feel it). You can feel where the join connector is so probably worse part of tubing to be stressed or pressed on?

My surgeon said it would need another minor operation to get it lower etc. My parachute harness is being altered to have extra memory foam padding around the leg straps. And all the seams changed to internal stitching so anything near my implant should be soft.

I’d probably wear padded cycling shorts too just in case. The leg straps ‘shouldn’t ‘ move in free fall. But you can have hard openings occasionally.

If it wasn’t for that single reservoir tube that’s healed in a position a little high then I’d probably not even think about it.
