Constant feeling like I need to pee

Postby phanter » Sat Sep 07, 2024 11:18 am

Hi all,

I got implanted about a month ago. Didn't have much in the way of pain. But about 2-3 weeks after the surgery, I always feel like I need to pee. I don't actually have to pee, but that's the feeling inside the urethra. Some days it's better, other days it's driving me completely insane. Had several UTI tests and they were negative.

Has anyone had something like this happen to them?

Thanks for any advice.

Were you catharized during surgery? The urethra could have been really irritated or inflamed especially where it goes into the bladder where the shutoff muscles are. I would definitely mention to Dr that this is not normal and it couldn’t hurt to do that antibiotic that’s specific to UTI!

Yes, I had a catheter for 1 day at the hospital. Bu everything was fine for about 2 weeks afterwards. The start of it coincided with when I inflated the implant for about 30mins a bit more than 2 weeks after. Not sure if that could have had something to do with it.

Does it make sense to take antibiotics if the UTI test is negative. Could there be some bacteria that a urine yest doesn't pick up?

Contact your surgeon and let him know what happened. Good luck I hope you feel better soon.

I had the exact same symptom and had not UTI. It resolved on its own after a couple of weeks.

Thanks for the replies. It's much better now. In case someone is having similar issues, what helped me a lot was to inflate myself to around 20 - 30%. Because there was also numbness on the shaft, it's possible some nerve got irritated, and needed time to heal. While it was still irritated, the burning pain sometimes reached around 7/10 when fully deflated. When 30% inflated, it was a very manageable 2/10. Now (6 weeks after), it's still not fully there, but seems to be healing.

After more than 3 and a half years of being implanted, I still have this urgency. About every 2-3 hours during the day, I feel like I want to pee, then there is nothing but a few drops. I don't feel the same if I am outside for long hours or at night when sleeping. Mostly because I am not focusing on it at these times.
With the implant, we get components added like the reservoir and tubing. If none of these is touching the bladder, something else may have come closer to the bladder and causes this urgency. This is just my assumption, not based on any scientific research or facts.
It is good that it is getting better. You can distract yourself when you feel it and pee only when you feel it is time to.

Have you tried Mirabegnon? I started using after having this problem, and I think it helped. It also seems to be helping me not get up at night to pee, which is a problem I had even before being implanted.

I didn't take any medication for that. I do not want to keep taking medications unless very necessary. I just try to not focus on it, and it works most of the time.
