Kaiser as insurance

Can patients opt for a high-volume surgeon from a "Kaiser-affiliated community provider" list or must the surgeon only be a direct Kaiser urologist/assigned physician?

I have Kaiser and there is no option for a surgeon out of the Kaiser family. I consulted with my Kaiser doc, nice guy but he was a nope. He didn't do many implants by his own admission, they only offered one manufacturer, and when he had me stand and held out my penis with his gloved hand and said "this is the outcome you should expect" I thought to myself I wouldn't go through the hassle to have that little thing. I asked him directly if he tried to maximize length or if he was conservative in sizing to eliminate any risks (I loaded the question that way to make it harder for him to give me the answer he thought I was looking for). He said he preferred to be conservative and just get the penis hard enough for penetration, length was not a priority.

I could have paid $200 at Kaiser, but I happily paid out of pocket 100x more to fly to Houston and have it done by Dr. Clavell. I couldn't be happier with my outcome and before I could even ask Dr. Clavell said he did everything possible to maximize girth and length.

I had my IPP at Kaiser Mid-Atlantic, but I already knew about the surgeon who was going to do the surgery. My plan was limited to Kaiser's doctors only. Maybe there are other plans with Kaiser that allow you to get treatment outside network. My implant went well with Dr. Li, not sure if he is still there, but there is a FT member who had a bad result at the same facility with another surgeon. Also, there might be a big deductible to pay depending on your plan and usage. If you can't find a surgeon you trust, switch to another insurance in 2025 that covers ED treatment, and if not possible, your only option will be to pay out of pocket.

Wow, Jage64, you really dodged a bullet! Thank you for sharing your experience with your Kaiser assigned physician and meeting Dr. Clavell. I looked for Kaiser urologists within my 200-mile radius, and not a single one is a Center of Excellence surgeon for either Coloplast or AMS.

I'll probably have to spend $20-30K on one of the rockstars like Dr. Eid, Perito, Clavell, Hakky, Kramer, or Karpman. My main concern is that I can only afford this cash payout thing once. If I face a mechanical failure, erosion or infection, it’s GAME OVER! In that case, I’d have to travel to countries like Egypt, India, or Brazil, where a high-volume surgeon could provide an AMS or Rigicon Malleable for $3,500ish, or risk getting an IPP through a not so confident Kaiser urologist, which seems too risky given their lack of COE surgeons in my state. Since I’m 42, Medicare isn’t an option. I have either Aetna or Kaiser option through my workplace, and I’ll be choosing Kaiser for 2025 since Aetna is useless for ED treatments. The only other option is to get a Malleable from one of the above rockstar surgeons, so I don't have to constantly live with a revision anxiety It's really going to be a tough call!
