How long do Dog Ears Hurt?

Postby JHealth » Sun Oct 06, 2024 10:10 am

Can anyone give guidance on dog ears.
I am almost to 6 weeks post surgery. Dog ears are so tender I can barely touch them and they cause pain to radiate throughout.
Thanks,
JK

Are you talking about the tip? I am one month out and asking the same question.

The dog's ears mostly stopped hurting after about three months. I still have prominent dog ears at the base of the shaft when deflated, but they have not been at all painful since about six months after surgery. I have a Titan Touch. From what I can gather, dog ears also can happen with the AMS IPPs, but they are less pronounced and unlikely to be painful.

I only had pain if I put pressure on the dog ear area. My recollection is that the pain was annoying but I wouldn’t call it severe. It made me wonder if the corner of the dog ear would eventually erode through the tunica. It seems like just about everyone with a Titan has noticeable dog ears, but they soften up and stop being aa noticeable after about 6 months. If the pain is severe it’s probably a good idea to check in with your surgeon.

I've had 2 AMS 700CX's with this last one being inoperable since Jan this year ( waiting on revision ) and have not noticed any dog ears with either of mine, since I'm completely deflated now, I can bend it in half and I don't see or feel dog ears. AMS has a silicon cylinder so it's much softer and I don't think it is prone to dog ears.
AMS 700 CX 21cm x 12mm with 1.5cm RTE, MS pump, and Conceal Reservoir. Implanted on 4-12-2023 removed and replaced 6-22-23 with the same, 1st implant surgery had pinhole leak in left cylinder, second failure tubing at connector

I’m curious to understand why some people experience dog ears with the Titan while others don’t. Is it related to flaccid girth or length? Could having more tissue in the flaccid state help prevent dog ears? I’m currently trying to decide between the AMS CX and the Titan, and while my preference leans toward the Titan, I want to assess whether I might face issues with dog ears. For reference, my flaccid measurements are 4" in girth and 4" in length. Any feedback would be much appreciated.
55 years. Using bimix 0.4 units. Works well but inconsistent and very inconvenient. Seriously considering an implant.

18+ months with my AMS, never had a dog ear. This was a consideration when determining which implant was better for me. My flaccid is nearly indistinguishable from OEM, I never think about it and have never had pain or discomfort.
2/22/23 AMS 700 CX 21cm + 1.5cm RTEs. 58 yrs old, wife of 37 yrs. Penoscrotal. 100ml Conceal reservoir. Dr. Clavell. Pills failing and went right to implant, skipped the injections. 12 mos. later: 7 1/2" x 5 3/4"
