Interesting. This is the first time I've heard of a TB infection complicating an implant. Did he travel from another country? One concern I have about undergoing surgery internationally is the risk of acquiring an infection from a different environment. Our immune systems are generally adapted to the microbes in our local environment, including the water supply, but exposure to new pathogens in a new country can sometimes pose an increased risk of infection (in theory). We are constantly exposed to microbes everywhere, I guess the problem is when our immune system loses that fight. This may not be the doctor's fault provided the standard infection protocols were followed. Even the best of the best surgeons have a 0.5-1% infection rate.
