I don't think that is necessarily true.

During my first meeting with my urologist, he introduced me to the implant as an option for treating my ED. He told me satisfaction rates of men and their partners for implants versus other treatments, including injections. Implants have the highest satisfaction rate by far.

My insurance doesn't cover injections, so I never really tried them. But I am highly satisfied with my implant and don't wish one bit that I had tried injections first.

I did injections for 6 years before getting the implant. In retrospect, I wish I had gone straight for the implant when pills started failing. Of course that’s easy to say now that the healing is done and I’m enjoying a good outcome.

I'm in the same mind set. Pills failed after a couple years then the bad side effects started. Migraines the next day, muscle cramps and feeling worn out. Learned about Trimix injections from one of those men's clinics that promised you would get an erection or the visit was free. I'm sure they use a strong formula in the office to produce a good erection even if your venous leak is bad. I did Trimix for about three years until it began to fail. At that time I knew nothing about implants. On a vacation to Vegas I saw an ad in the newspaper about a doctor who did implants. Came home and researched local docs who did that. Two years later I was on the operating table, my first surgery as an adult.
As much as my recovery was tough, looking back I really wish I knew about implants before taking that first Viagra. I have always been cautious about what drugs go into my body and wonder what long term effects it may have.

Not sure what that means, I am 6 months in and have good blood flow, head of my penis gets big when im arroused, and I even started to feel natural erections, even if my cock doesn't get erect from it.

No atrophy here, maybe if someone never inflates....

In case anyone is wondering about 'atrophy', here's one example of atrophy that's published in a journal in which Dr. Eid is one of the authors.

[i]Penile prostheses form a pseudocapsule after implantation[26]. For the inflatable component of the implant, inflation of the implant allows the material to fill the entire space within the pseudocapsule. However, anecdotally, we have found that the pseudocapsule around the non-expanding rear tips gradually dilates over time, and pressure atrophy with gradual compression of the surrounding cavernosal muscle and tunica thins out the flesh of the penis. The dilation may cause the device to “wobble” proximally, more so if more rear tips are used. In our experience, this phenomenon is more pronounced with malleable penile prostheses.

Nope, specifically skipped injections.

When I was speaking to my Doc about all the different recommendations I had been reading about how to treat the implant before and after surgery, exercises to do, frequency of cycling, what activities I should not do, etc., he made a comment that has resonated with me ever since. He said something along the lines of "my goal is to make it so you don't think about your penis or otherwise worry about anything to do with it until YOU want to. Just like your natural penis. That's my goal as your urologist".

Although by the time I spoke with him I had already decided to not go the injection route, I thought of all the preparation I had to do to hide my pill usage from my wife so she didn't feel my inability had anything to do with her desirability, dealing with the headaches, backaches and indigestion they eventually caused, the increased dosage, the cost, whether or not I had taken them on an empty stomach or not, if I had taken one too late or to early to be effective at the right time, on and on. Obtaining and using an erection came with MANY other considerations to the point where although my brain wanted to be intimate with my wife in the worst way, I had second thoughts about all the planning and pain it would cause to be able to perform. For the first time in my life I was actually the one that said "not tonight dear".

I certainly didn't want to move from all of that with pills, to then drawing a syringe and injecting my penis with all those similar concerns.

Nope, straight to implant. 18 pumps and I'm ready to go, push a button and it's back to normal. Fantastic.

Injections are maybe a step from pills before going with an implant. But..I have heard that injections can damage the penis over time. I did injections for over 10 years, maybe from 2010 until now, so almost 14 years, but I was careful to move around and I got lucky.

I even used https://zionpharmacy.com/ which sends in powder form so no refrigeration until you mix it. but for travel, its a pain... and when time to have sex.. you have to inject. Now that I have an implant.. I am much happier. Nothing to cary or worry about. Plus I intend to retire to the Philippines, and i don't think Trimix is legal there anyway... so I would really be in a bad situation.

My implant solves all that. I am not advising anyone to go with an implant over injections, because I did that for 10 years and it worked. so maybe a good solution for you.

Just giving my experience.

I think it is a good thing to at least try injections once. Doing so will bolster your case for an implant as you will think "well I tried everything and none of the non-invasive treatments are satisfying to me". Or you may realize that, as a matter of fact, you do like injections or at the very least can tolerate them for some years.

In my case, I barely tried injections. I have tried injections once for a Doppler some years ago, once in a urologist's office to leant to how to use them by myself, once with a girl "successfully" (I was hard but it hurt so bad it wasn't enjoyable and I actually tried to finish as quickly as possible to end the pain), and once with the same girl unsuccessfully, as I injected my urethra (!!!) and the product obviously leaked out. Pain was so bad I almost passed out when I left the bathroom, and as I went back to my bedroom, the girl noticed that I was all pale and weak. After a couple of minutes, I felt better and attempted to have sex, but it didn't work as the Alprostadil was not circulating in my veins... So lots of pain, stress, and shame, for what exactly? For nothing, I couldn't keep it up. This was a low point for me, but I've had so many awful sexual experiences that I have stopped counting.

Once I had my surgery date confirmed, I decided to inject myself twice more, alone in my flat, just to be sure that I wasn't doing a mistake with the implant decision. I wanted to see if maybe the injections were less painful now and if I could picture myself doing this for the rest of my life. My erections these two times were indeed not super painful but also not that strong, once I ejaculated the erection went down and didn't come back, and I was still very much uncomfortable with the whole preparation process. However you put it, injecting your penis is neither fun no sexy. So I went for the implant and so far I am super glad I did.

He was replying to me and not sure what he is talking about. As long as the implant is used/cycled there should be no problem vs. untreated ED for years.
