Various questions from someone planning to have procedure done in about a month

Postby twelvepillarscup » Thu Jan 16, 2025 1:19 am

Hi all,

Finally spoke with my doctor and we've started the insurance process. As you might imagine, my mind is swirling with questions. I believe I would be getting the AMS 700 model. Apologies as I'm sure you guys get these questions a lot. I understand the amount of questions is a bit overwhelming so feel free to skip any if you want. I'm going to enter these questions into ChatGPT to get an idea but would love to hear real personal feedback as well. Here they are:

1. Is it possible to "pre-pump" the AMS 700? Like if I know I'm about to have a sexual encounter in the next 30 minutes, I can pre-pump to prepare? Would love to hear what this dynamic is like from people with the implant.

2. What causes the degradation of the pump? I'm a younger guy so I will I'm sure have to get a replacement/revision in the next 10 years or so. I would like to minimize degradation as much as possible.

3. What are some pros AND cons you didn't expect and found out only until after you got the pump?

4. Are there two bulbs/buttons? One to inflate and one to deflate? To deflate, is it the same mechanism where you need to press it multiple times or can you just hold it?

5. Is the penis sensitivity dynamic the same as before having an implant? Like without the implant, if you don't masturbate for several days then it gets more sensitive. Whereas if you have sex the day of masturbating or day after then it's going to be less sensitive. Sometimes this can be beneficial for trying to last longer.

6. Similar to question 5, can you last longer with the implant? Did you notice any differences with how long you last?

7. With sessions where you try to climax twice or even three times in the same session, is it difficult? Does the implant help in this situation or not help?

8. Seems like 6 weeks is the healing period and apparently sex is permitted after that period. What was the healing period like for you? Did you work? Did you go on walks? Did you have sex after 6 weeks? How was the first time you tried having sex?

9. Do you masturbate with the implant? What is that like?

10. For the procedure itself, were you put to sleep? Do you have the option to be put to sleep or not? I've heard it may be more expensive to be put to sleep but I'd be willing to pay for it.

11. Usually I see the amount of payment to be around the $20,000 range. Is this all in (aftercare support, vacuum erection device, etc)? Are there any other extra costs after? Are there payment plans? Any experiences/feedbacks with regards to payments is appreciated.

12. In regards to size, does it pretty much return to the same size as before? From what I'm gathering, it will be smaller initially. In some cases can you get larger? I'm not too worried about getting larger and would be fine if it just returned to the same size as before.

13. Do I need to use a vaccum erection device after the surgery to "pump" to stretch the tissue?

Thank you for your time. I know this was a lot but hope you can empathize!

1. Is it possible to "pre-pump" the AMS 700? Like if I know I'm about to have a sexual encounter in the next 30 minutes, I can pre-pump to prepare? Would love to hear what this dynamic is like from people with the implant.

Yes it can stay inflated for as long as you need, one of the top surgeons has a guy come to him every year to pump him to the max (older boy not great dexterity says doc can pump it harder than him) and he keeps it fully inflated for the duration of a week while he is on holiday.

2. What causes the degradation of the pump? I'm a younger guy so I will I'm sure have to get a replacement/revision in the next 10 years or so. I would like to minimize degradation as much as possible.

I wouldnt concern your self with this, if they are gonna break there gonna break they are built very sturdy but just like everything its a roll of the dice, could be 10 years, could be 5. YOU wont break your pump if its going to fail it'll fail regardless of your input. your getting the device to use it, if your spend your time worrying about prolonging it and not using it you will be wasting your time imo.

3. What are some pros AND cons you didn't expect and found out only until after you got the pump?

pro's are easy, you get a working dick thats incredibly reliable. cons for this is initially you have to endure some pain and discomfort.

4. Are there two bulbs/buttons? One to inflate and one to deflate? To deflate, is it the same mechanism where you need to press it multiple times or can you just hold it?

Its a fairly large bulb at the base maybe the size of a thumb nail thats what you press to pump. then there is a much smaller button above the bulb maybe about half the size of a small finger nail that you press in to deflate.

No changes in sensitivity for me works exactly the same. After going through the surgery and abstaining for 4 weeks i dropped my load in about 1 minuet during masturbation, first time i tried sex i lasted 5 minuets, Now its based on how i feel.

6. Similar to question 5, can you last longer with the implant? Did you notice any differences with how long you last?

No i last the same amount of time difference is, if i pop my load in 5 minuets it doesnt have to be the end of it the session, He aint going anywhere will stay erect for as long as i want it to i could immidately go into a round two without stopping.

7. With sessions where you try to climax twice or even three times in the same session, is it difficult? Does the implant help in this situation or not help?

After i climax i become quiet "numb" for want of a better word chances are i will not climax again in the same session at that point its all for my sex partner. but in short to awnser your question Yes it will help, you wont go soft (maybe on your bellend you will but there are ways around that)

8. Seems like 6 weeks is the healing period and apparently sex is permitted after that period. What was the healing period like for you? Did you work? Did you go on walks? Did you have sex after 6 weeks? How was the first time you tried having sex?

I did sex at 4 weeks my healing period was still 6 weeks but i ignored the advice because i healed quiet quick (listen to your surgeon dont be a me) My healing period was initially very rough i got massive swelling that cleared up after 2 weeks then i was able to walk about 1.5 miles a day i still wasnt comfortable then but i could manage it. by the end of week 3 everything settled down and i felt more normal, still bouts of pain here and there but very manageable. by week 5 i felt pretty much healed im currently on week 7 and have sex nightly.

at 4 weeks i had sex then did nothing for another 3 or so days before going again
week 5 i had sex every other night
week 6 i had sex whenever i wanted

you DO feel bruised the first couple of times you have sex i dont think it matters if you do it at 4 weeks or 6 weeks theres a lot of pressure on places there hasnt been previously because of the implant. first time i had sex felt completely normal which as exactly what i was looking for and its felt normal ever since.

9. Do you masturbate with the implant? What is that like?

Yes infact i masturbated in its deflated stated 4 weeks out from surgery and it worked absolutely fine. after i started inflating i then tried masturbation inflated and that was also great. i have even since masturbated in the deflated state its rigid enough to do it and saves a bit of the process if your feeling lazy. Also gives me hope that even if my implant stops working i'll still be able to get my self off while waiting for a replacement.

10. For the procedure itself, were you put to sleep? Do you have the option to be put to sleep or not? I've heard it may be more expensive to be put to sleep but I'd be willing to pay for it.

For me through the NHS yes i was put to sleep. i dont think this is something you really want a local for, they are NOT gentle man there is a lot of tugging and smashing watch the procedure done on youtube. Save your mental health pay to sleep lol.

11. Usually I see the amount of payment to be around the $20,000 range. Is this all in (aftercare support, vacuum erection device, etc)? Are there any other extra costs after? Are there payment plans? Any experiences/feedbacks with regards to payments is appreciated.

I cant help you here.

12. In regards to size, does it pretty much return to the same size as before? From what I'm gathering, it will be smaller initially. In some cases can you get larger? I'm not too worried about getting larger and would be fine if it just returned to the same size as before.

I say approach this with the expectation that you will lose half an inch and you wont be disappointed, right out of surgery i was an inch and a half sorter. After cycling for awhile and the swelling going down i was only half an inch short i'm still early days so there is a chance i can my half an inch back but its a trade off i was willing to make.

13. Do I need to use a vaccum erection device after the surgery to "pump" to stretch the tissue?

No infact i'd highly advise against submitting your damaged penis to a vacuum device while healing. If you mean in the long term absolutely not your implant does that job you just cycle it daily to stimulate morning wood and night erections ect. pumping daily will be something you do for the rest of your life with it. (doesnt need to be every single day but if you can you should) If you dont use the pump for a period of 6 weeks or so i can start adhering to your scrotum ect and causing problems.

Thank you for your time. I know this was a lot but hope you can empathize![/quote]

I'm married and I pump up ahead of time, so my wife doesn't have to wait when we start foreplay before PIV. I think you could definitely pump to 80 precent and not have a problem with concealing with good underwear. There are other guys on here that can help with getting ready since you are single, I'm assuming.

2. What causes the degradation of the pump? I'm a younger guy so I will I'm sure have to get a replacement/revision in the next 10 years or so. I would like to minimize degradation as much as possible. I have the older AMS MS pump, I've only had it for 3 years but it works great. One of the AMS patients that I talked with before I got mine had his first one for 16 years before the LGX implant failed, but they determined it was a tubing leak and not the pump.

3. What are some pros AND cons you didn't expect and found out only until after you got the pump? Pro - can be ready to go anytime any place and not have to worry about pill working. Con - I don't have any cons at 3 years out from surgery.

4. Are there two bulbs/buttons? One to inflate and one to deflate? To deflate, is it the same mechanism where you need to press it multiple times or can you just hold it? It is just one button to deflate. You only have to squeeze the pump to activate the check valve and start pumping, you don't have to press any button.

For me it's the same as before the implant. I don't masturbate as much now, because it is easier to be in the moment with my wife if we want to have sex. Yes, if I masturbate the day before or the day of having sex with my wife, it takes longer for me to climax, but for me that can be a good thing because we can be intimate longer without me nutting too quick. On the other hand I can still climax and nut and keep on going to satisfy my wife and get her to climax. Not every guy will have the same outcome but for me things are about the same as before, except I can last and last and last and last :!: :D

6. Similar to question 5, can you last longer with the implant? Did you notice any differences with how long you last? I'm getting older, so it takes me longer to cum, I don't think the implant has changed the way I climax at all. I can just stay hard and keep satisfying my wife :D

7. With sessions where you try to climax twice or even three times in the same session, is it difficult? Does the implant help in this situation or not help? I can't help you with this one, my wife and I have always just been one and done, although I would like to have more after I get a few minutes of rest. It would be great to have multiple orgasms with my wife, I'll have to see if we can make that happen, since she is on testosterone therapy now. It has definitely ramped up our sex life. ;)

8. Seems like 6 weeks is the healing period and apparently sex is permitted after that period. What was the healing period like for you? Did you work? Did you go on walks? Did you have sex after 6 weeks? How was the first time you tried having sex? I had device training at 6 weeks and was cleared for sex, but I still had pain in my shaft and glans. I waited 8 weeks for sex. I pumped up way ahead of time to be ready and I started having pain before we got to PIV sex. At 8 weeks, I don't think I could pump to the max to get maximum hardness, so sex was awkward with me trying to find her hole and penetrate and then I couldn't enjoy sex because my dick had already started hurting. I would say at 6 months, sex is back to normal. We're all different and heal different, I've heard other guys have sex at 3 weeks who had infrapubic install and they didn't have any pain. Now, sex is great :!:

9. Do you masturbate with the implant? What is that like? Almost the same as before. I usually only pump to around 70 percent with the AMS LGX, so it is softer and it feels better.

10. For the procedure itself, were you put to sleep? Do you have the option to be put to sleep or not? I've heard it may be more expensive to be put to sleep but I'd be willing to pay for it. Totally under, I don't think they can do the install without putting you all the way under. I wouldn't want to be half under like a colonoscopy.

11. Usually I see the amount of payment to be around the $20,000 range. Is this all in (aftercare support, vacuum erection device, etc)? Are there any other extra costs after? Are there payment plans? Any experiences/feedbacks with regards to payments is appreciated.Sorry, I can't help you here, I'm retired Air Force, so I got mine done free at a military hospital

12. In regards to size, does it pretty much return to the same size as before? From what I'm gathering, it will be smaller initially. In some cases can you get larger? I'm not too worried about getting larger and would be fine if it just returned to the same size as before. For me, once I started cycling I was able to gain back my original size, but it did take about 4 to 6 months to get there.

13. Do I need to use a vaccum erection device after the surgery to "pump" to stretch the tissue? I only used a VED before surgery to help maintain stretch. I didn't use one afterwards

Thank you for your time. I know this was a lot but hope you can empathize!
I totally get it, it's a big step and you can't change it when it is done. But it is worth it. Here lately there have been several guys on FrankTalk that have got malleable implants, I might have went that route, if I was given the choice. It has no pump and no reservoir. Check out their topic threads, they are still on the front page of implants.

Good Luck, I hope I helped

1. You can prepump it as much or as little as you want, but honestly I don't see the need to. I'm also a younger guy and once my pump got softer (which only took like 2 weeks) I could pump it one handed in less than 20 seconds.

2. The pump is a mechanical device and will degrade with use. There is no point in worrying about it any more than this. If you're not doing something silly with it, it should last you 10+ years.

3. There were no unexpected pros for me, it does the job it's suppose to do.
As for cons, for the first few months it's higher maintenance than you might expect. You got to pump it up everyday, you'll have to tug on the pump a bunch of times a day and you'll have to constantly readjust yourself because your dick will still likely be tender and leaving it in one position for too long just made it worse for me.
Not sure if everyone would call it a con, but if you ask me the device is way, way to rigid, both erect and unerect. Erect it's like having a steel rod in your dick and it's just unnecessary for it to be this rigid. Even when totally unerect it's still fairly rigid, the material it's made from is more plastic like than rubbery (I'd compare it to the material a toothpaste tube is made from). You could easily have sex with the device in an uninflated state.
If you ask me this level of rigidity is simply too much and you will end up with a penis that is distinctly unnatural in how it feels. Maybe you're fine with having a dick that is hard enough to drill holes through concrete, but I'd be fine with it being less rigid and more natural.
Another con I don't see mentioned much is toilet use. As I said, the device is rigid, so for me for the first 2 or so months I had to stand 3 feet away from the toilet to piss in it. Sitting down isn't much better, you will be a shower now and not a grower, so your dick might be too big. I would also have to lean forward when pissing so my dick was aimed down, otherwise I'd piss all over the bathroom wall.
Another thing I noticed is I'd have to spend an extra minute or two in the bathroom making sure I had finished pissing, otherwise I'd leave and a bit would leak out. It's gotten better over time but still hasn't gone completely.

4. There is a fairly obvious bulb to squeeze, this is a pump and works like any pump. Multiple squeezes are needed to get an erection.
There is a button to open a valve and deflate the penis. Depending on the exact make and model you get you might just press this or have to hold it.
If you're young and familiarize yourself with these, both can be operated one handed, with your eyes closed. It's not complex or difficult to use once the pain has settled down.

5. If everything goes well there should be no change in this at all.

6. The device shouldn't effect how long you last at all.

7. This is theoretically possible. You can maintain an erection indefinitely with an implant. That being said I've never tried to go more than once and usually don't feel like it either.

8. My healing period was probably worse than most because the reservoir was put in my abdomen.
For the first 4-5 days there was no way I could do anything normal, even getting out of bed felt like someone had punched me in the kidney.
After about a week I could get up and move around slowly.
After about 2-3 weeks the pain in my abdomen had gone completely but I could feel the reservoir at all times, this probably lasts for 5-6 weeks.
My dick hurt through most of this as well. I'd have to move it around all the time because leaving it in one position just hurt. This pain lasted much longer than 6 weeks. By about week 9-10 it was improving but still not completely gone and even today I still have to move my dick around every now and then.
The 6 week period is only when it is medically safe to use the device, not when you'll be back at 100%. For some people this takes months or even close to a year.

9. Yes. It's mostly the same. There is a short bit before and after where I have to inflate/deflate the device obviously, but other than this it's exactly the same.
The only real difference is for the first few weeks it didn't feel like my dick. The dick I grew up with and had held in my hand a million times doesn't exist anymore, it has been replaced with another dick that feels different. But you get use to it.

10. This is normal and I don't think you'd want to be awake for the procedure.

11. I paid privately in the UK, cost around £15,000 all inclusive. You may need to buy new underwear and have a stockpile of paracetamol, ibuprofen and laxatives (hospitals in the UK are incredibly stingy about handing out medication). Other than this there shouldn't be any other costs but I'm not American and do not know how the American system works.

12. It will get shorter, thats just how it is. Over a period of months or years you might get some or even all of your length back. But if you're getting an implant it's because your dick doesn't work. Do you want a working but slightly shorter dick, or a slightly longer dick that is useless?

13. Some people and research say you should do it, others say you shouldn't. You should really ask your doctor about this.
For me though, I didn't and for the first 9-10 weeks I definitely wouldn't have even wanted to try. My dick was way too painful and I can't imagine what putting it in a vacuum device would have felt like (except pain).
