I didn't update this for awhile but somehow feel compelled to. I decided a log of when things don't go to plan might be useful to someone going through something similar.
About seven weeks in I got infected as mentioned here:

viewtopic.php?f=21&t=26087&p=248014#p248014Two weekends ago, I had a rather spectacular quantity of drainage from the incision site leading to an ER visit--they removed some staples and cleaned things out with saline. Rest of the staples came out yesterday. The incision isn't closed yet and is still draining a bit.
Knock on wood, I'm infection free. Thankfully other than minor discomfort, I've been pain free throughout. The worst part of my journey was the hospital stay after the salvage operation. That was pretty horrible. The culture came back as MSSA, a germ that generally lives on the skin.
I'm continuing to follow up with my current surgeon and am healing. I think both he and I are ready to move on because when I asked generally when I could give it another go with the IPP, he said "anyone" going in would wait about three months until the tissue at the incision site has not only healed but also "softened."
At all events, I'm doing my damnedest not to be despairing or second guess things, both of which I'm prone to do. I'm trying to move ahead with purpose. I've started back up at the gym. I have an appointment with Clavell in several weeks.
Anyhow, good luck to everyone!
