How long has your implant lasted?

I'm trying to get a rough idea how long I can expect an implant to last before I have to get it replaced. So, can those of you who had your first implant 10 years ago or earlier, post a quick note to say:

- (a) how many years your first implant lasted (and if it still going, how many years has it been)?
- (b) what make/model was it
- (c) if you got it replaced, how does that surgery compare to the original surgery?

Thank you. I'm relatively young (44) and want to understand if I get an implant whether I'm likely to need another surgery.

My surgeon told me that with all the longevity in my family there was a good chance I will eventually need a replacement. I'm sixty four and most of my relatives have lived to ninety. He was very matter of fact about it, kind of like replacing a battery in a car. So odds are you would eventually need a replacement.
That said, needing an eventual replacement would not be a deterrent at all. My recovery was about one month and only the first two weeks were actually uncomfortable.

It's really hard to give you an accurate assessment on the longevity of either model ...

Both AMS and Coloplast had major revisions between 2006 and 2008 ... the only thing that generally fails is the inflate/deflate bump valve. So in reality longevity can only be based on models manufactured since 2006-08 ...

Even if you did at some point need a replacement ... it's well worth it!
