6 weeks ago I was implanted. Today I got my doctors go to do an inflation. The first quick pump was easy. The next ten pumps were hard but manageable. Suddenly I had quite a bit discomfort / pain on the left side of the penis shaft.
Tried to fully deflate an inflate it again a couple of times, but I seem to always reach the pain and then I'm unable to proceed inflating.
Is this normal the first time(s)? I have an AMS 700. Took no pain meds prior to inflation. Should I?
Activation - inflation pain / discomfort
Re: Activation - inflation pain / discomfort
Tryfied,
I was implanted with a Titan on 6/11/14 and the doctor activated me on 7/29/14 so I am now at about 8 weeks post op. The first time I pumped it up myself on 7/30/14 (6-7 weeks postop), it hurt in various places but mostly in the glans. After I deflated, it remained sore for 6-8 hours. I have continued to inflate to the max each day for about 15 minutes and, as an example, now it is is only uncomfortable in the glans when pumped and the soreness is gone within a couple of hours. It is getting less uncomfortable as time goes along. To your specific question, I did have some stinging in the side of my penis when pumping up in the first week (around week 6-7), but have not noticed that lately - it is mainly the glans.
I do believe the pain and soreness is becoming less and less and will eventually go away.
Best to you!
Bill

75 years old, Severe ED since Robotic Prostatectomy in 2010. Titan implanted 2014 by Dr Milam. Titan failed (tubing leak near cylinder) May 2017. Revision by Dr. Kramer on 7/26/17. Replaced cylinders and pump - upsized to 22 cm Titan, 1 cm RTE.
Re: Activation - inflation pain / discomfort
I got an AMS implant on 7.2.14, so I am close to 6 weeks out. I still have soreness after inflating and deflating, and I can't seem to ever fully inflate - I get to around 50%, and it seems like nothing happens when I pump after that. As best as I can tell, these are normal difficulties during the first few months.

Re: Activation - inflation pain / discomfort
My guess is you are 100% deflated, but you don't know it, or your deflated state is much stiffer than you expected. The penis has the thickness of the cylinders in there- of course its' going to seem thicker and always "hard" , when you deflate it won't go down to totally soft. It's going to stick out, seem inflated, always seem hard, because the cylinders retain some rigidity, they are always a bit stiff, and some fluid will remain in there. Once you squeeze the button and the penis- that's it, it's deflated. You're doing it properly, but you're not used to how the soft state feels when you have an implant in: the answer is it's going to be stiffer.
Re: Activation - inflation pain / discomfort
It does indeed feel stiff when I'm deflated. I know that since my doctor left me partly inflated after surgery. I'm learning my self to pump from AMS' introduction videos as I'm not able to see my doctor. He is in USA and me in Europe.
I don't think I'm fully inflated. It i remains stiff but points down. I don't think it seems thick. I actually thought and hoped it would be thicker. But maybe it helps when I'm able to properly inflate it?
Just tried to pump it again as much as I'm able to. It feels very sore. Mind you it's four years ago I had a proper erection. Someone on the chat suggested me yesterday that the soreness could be because of tissue that hadn't been stretched for so long and suggested that inflation would help on this.
My issues sound very similar to yours Huffy1. Maybe it's just normal difficulties like you suggest. May have to see someone who can actually show me how inflation works. I can't see what I could be doing wrong though. It seems so simple after all.

Re: Activation - inflation pain / discomfort
@tryified Good to hear you've started to inflate. I started about 14 days ago and every thing you're saying sounds exactly what I was thinking after the first few days of inflation.
For me the pump felt incredibly stiff and I could barely get 5-6 squeezes in and the cylinders didn't seem to be very much inflated at all and it hurt like hell but trust me it will get much easier in a very short time. I can get around 11-12 decent pumps in now and the implant is .5inchs longer in about ten days and wider and it still has a long way to go in terms of expansion IMO. As I increase max pumps it's gets incredibly sore at the tips pushing into the glans where the implant is stretching the tissues. I'm trying to tolerate it best I can to maximum expansion.
As far as deflation goes. I don't think I'm getting it fully deflated either. Mine too feels quite stiff but I can have it hanging in a natural position with tight trousers and not be conspicuous so can't complain too much. I think as others have said that maybe is just how it feels deflated.
