Day 6 and the pain is bad

I had a Titan installed on 6/11/14. You are still very early in the recovery process, but the things that you are describing are generally what I experienced as well thru about week 6 or 7. The discomfort decreased for me very slowly - day by day. There was just no good way to get comfortable for very long. In the past week or so (week 8 or 9), I have been comfortable almost all the time. My left cylinder has a flex point about half way down my penis when deflated or even a little bit inflated. It was very sore and uncomfortable for several week, but I do not notice it much now.

My experience has been that this recovery just takes time. Hang in there and keep the faith - it will get a lot better and eventually will be wonderful.

Dr Milam's instruction to me was to begin baths only after three weeks, but I have noted that some on the forum were instructed to begin sooner. I think Dr Eid has his patients begin on day 3. I do not know this for sure, but I believe it has to do with the type or method of sutures.

You have major surgery on a sensitive part of your body. So it is realistic to expect pain. I had a Coloplast Titan implanted last October. For the first weeks and a couple of months I had some doubts about whether or not I had made a mistake. However one day I realized that there was no pain, the swelling in my scrotum was gone, my balls had loosened up and were flopping around with their new friend and my wife and I started having good sex. I am 72 and wish I had had it done at 60!

Hi Alan ... your post sounds like it could have been written by me regarding your pain and disillusionment. I totally agree, I was not adequately prepared by my Doc for this and, like you, at times have questioned if it was worth it. While I am so sorry to hear what you are going through, you can't imagine how reassuring it is to read the responses to your post and hear that all this we are experiencing is most likely normal

I had my Coloplast inflatable implanted on July 7th. Three and a half weeks later the pain and swelling was so bad the Doc presumed there must be infection and advised I go to "Plan B" and have the thing removed and replaced with semi rigid device. He said many people who have had to have this done felt afterward that they should have gotten the semi rigid to begin with. It is simpler with less things to fail but the downside is it is always rigid. It is bendable and normally you bend it down and they say after awhile you get used to it. We'll see.

The Doc said he would "flush out" everything before inserting the semi rigid to be sure all infection was gone and that afterward I would feel much better in just a couple days ... wrong!! After the second surgery when I awoke in the recovery room I was screaming from the pain. The burning and stinging and the feeling of being kicked in the balls was just unbearable. All the flushing and trauma of two surgeries really took it's toll.

This pain did not go away and it is now 3 weeks since that second surgery and while it is more bearable, I still can't get comfortable and anything rubbing against the penis is painful. Some mornings it feels better but by the end of the day the pain is once again back. The recovery is excruciatingly slow. Most of the pain is now burning at the base of the penis and sensitivity along the sides of the shaft. My scrotum still feels like someone is pulling down on the insides.

According to your respondents the discomfort may last up to six weeks. While another 3 weeks of this is discouraging at least I know there is still hope.

I would appreciate hearing how you are doing and any encouragement from others viewing this post.

I'm so so sorry to hear that you are having such a rough time with the pain. I know exactly how you are feeling and part of me was actually happy that I developed an infection and had to have the implant removed. I spent weeks barely being able to walk, the swelling never went down, I bled nonstop for 3 weeks and every time I had to touch my penis all I could think was what a huge mistake it was and wish it would just come out.
That being said, I had a horrible surgeon who clearly over spoke his abilities. If you still have weeks to see the doc, call them and demand an appointment NOW! He can double check for infection, he can refer you to a pain management specialist... there are always options in every scenario.
Ultimately it could just be that your penis is just much more sensitive to the pain that some other people. Your doctor has to recognize that, and if he doesn't, then time to get on the horn and find a different doctor who will listen to you that the pain is unbearable. You SHOULD NOT HAVE TO SUFFER! I have fired more than one doctor because they just do not spend the time to listen. He may have done a fine job with the surgery, but if he can't manage post-op care, then look around for another doc who can.

So, despite the incision issue, things are looking positive.

There are several options:
- Use a strong and tight adhesive tape keeping the two borders of the incision and pressing them one aginst the other for a while.
- Use cyanoacrylate (known from instant adhesive) in order to glue them. There exist a medical version of cyanoacrylate.
- Excision: The doctor might recut the incision and apply a new suture.
Don't apply desinfection fluid like Octenisept. It's totally counterproductive when it's about open wounds!
