Hello,
This question is for anyone who has penile implants. Maybe especially the ones from Germany.
I’m not quite at the point where I’ve fully decided on getting an implant, but I have an appointment with a specialist in September.
I’ve heard in forums and on a podcast that surgeons there carefully evaluate whether to perform the procedure. As part of that assessment, they also check how great the actual need is. There were statements that they check whether the person only has sex two or three times a year, or multiple times a week—reasoning that in the latter case, the level of suffering is higher. Additionally, they reportedly speak with partners if needed to find out what their hopes and expectations are.
I’m now wondering whether doctors in Germany also discuss one's sex life in such detail, or if it’s only mentioned in passing? Do they potentially speak with the wife? And how does it work if the partner says she doesn't really have high expectations and isn't particularly interested in sex anyway? What I mean to ask is: what do doctors say if they find out that right now, it's mainly about being able to get an erection for masturbation?

50 yo. ED for 12 years now. Lost length during that time. No morning wood for 2 years now. Jerking is possible, but only flaccid or with an injection. I don't like the injections, they hurt. I live in Germany.

And1975,
it doesn't interest any doctor, how often you or your wife have sex or speaking with your wife about, it's simply not important how often you'll need your bionic dick.
The only fact that matters is, that you have ED. It's your right and desire to have a functional dick and to feel a man again.
Just forget about such nonsense and go for the implant ASAP to end your suffering with ED.
All the best.

Is there an option to pay out of pocket in Germany for the surgery for an out of country visitor?

Sure, but mostly as prepayment

By any chance do you know how much that would be? In US, as far as I am aware the procedure is anywhere between $25-40K.

Well, I'm US based, so I have no clue what might be asked in Germany. Really, it's not the damned doctors business if you have sex every day, three times a week, twice a month or only once a year. Prior to my implant, both my wife and I had a consult with the doctor where we did state we had an active sex life, although we never stated any details and he never asked. He discussed my medical history, the operation, possible complications and the recovery. He did a physical exam and explained what I should expect post-op as to size. Then it boiled down to if I wanted the implant or not.
75 YO (1951). Happily married since 1972 (A couple since 1968). ED since age 60. Viagra, then Cialis, Trimix/Quadmix and VED. AMS 700 21cm + 1cm RTE left side, MS pump & 100cc reservoir. Implanted using Infrapubic procedure Jan 21, 2026.

25K Euro is a good number, this is what I paid in a private hospital.

Doctors don't ask about your sex life. They only listen to you and if you tell them you can't get erections by other means which is acceptable to you they will gladly work with you on implant route.
