Corrective surgery diary

Hi all.

Not posted in a long time as I was waiting for my corrective surgery and didnt my much to report.

Basically I have a miss aligned tip which was giving me pain and hour glassing near the base which looked odd.

Surgery was completed by professor ralph yesterday. We retained the original implant. He was planning to do 2 incisions one at the top and bottom, but managed to limit it to just the bottom to help mitigate and infection risk.

Ive been left bandaged and partially inflated so have had the chance to see the difference yet so cant comment on how well it went. But the difference in the pain compared to the last op is night and day, im already up and about pretty much normally.

Fingers crossed recovery goes well.

Second day post op and still feeling good. Bit more tingling near the tip but I think thats just some nerves waking back up, nothing i would consider close to pain.

Prof Ralph has said via email the bandages are to stay in for a week. Im keen to see the scar and it makes it hard to monitor for infection, but much easier to keep in one place so swings and roundabouts.

Im curious is im just not meant to shower this whole week, if guess not. Im going to be one smelly guy by next Tuesday

Wow! And I thought it was bad to have to wait 3 days! Hang in there. Sponge baths and wash head in a kitchen sink worked for me for 3. I’m also surprised he said 5 days. Seems he would want it off and cleaned up. Dr knows best.

Yeah i was very surprised to, he told me in a voice mail and I instantly followed up with an email to confirm as I thought i heard him wrong. Surely all sorts of bacteria will be present under the bandage, but he is the expert so I will do as im told.

Im just glad I booked 3 weeks off work, walking round with an inflated implant would be a challenge to hide!

Yep, sponge bath at the sink with soap and water. Just keep the dressing dry. But the rest of you can get washed.

Hang in there. It will all be worth it in the end.

Hope you have an easy desk job of some type. If you only took 3 weeks off! Generally my surgeon makes you wait 4-5 weeks before deflating and beginning cycling. Due to my complications I have to wait 6 weeks before deflating and beginning cycling this time. I’m just over 3 weeks and starting to feel really good. This is where it gets hard to tuck it and go in with your normal activities to some degreee. I have a very physical and very hot job as a maintenance mechanic in a big manufacturing facility so I got 8 weeks off work to recover.
