Who suggested an Implant? Who Suggested The Model?

Postby RickRed40 » Tue Mar 17, 2015 10:35 pm

I'm wondering how many men coping with ED were advised about the implant or whether the idea came from a Doctor. In my situation I'd been having some success with 2.5 mg daily dose of Cialis so my Urologist had no idea this treatment stopped working. When I told him I was so longer able to attain an erection he reviewed my history with included failure with penile injections he was more than willing to agree to my request for an implant. So I was the one who brought it up.

Since I knew absolutely nothing about penile implants, I asked my Urologist what brand he thought would be best for me. When he said the AMS 700 I simply took his word and agreed to using that brand. How did others decide what implant to use?

After being impotent for many years and finally mustering the courage in 1995 to tell my doctor about it, he directed me to a urologist to have the problem checked out. After undergoing a few tests, he said I might want an implant and gave me literature about the AMS Ultrex. Everything turned out better than I ever dreamed it would. At the time I didn't even realize we had choices. Maybe we didn't back then. In any case, that's how I was directed to AMS.
I'm 75 and got an AMS Ultrex in 1995. Had it replaced in 1999. Got a new AMS 700 LGX in 2013.

I just happened to stumble on it while I was researching ED on the web. When I met with the Urologist he is the one who suggested the AMS, I think i might go with the Titian instead. Seems to be less complaints about the pump with the Titian.

I self referred when it came to getting an implant. The urologist reviewed my records and agreed.

The surgeon I used does both Coloplast and Titan. He recommended the Titan because of size and a slight amount of peyronies.
I believe the peyronies was a result of scar tissue caused by Bi-Mix injections.

I am very happy with the implant and have no regrets

My local urologist put me on Tri-mix, and at my 90 day check up asked how the injections were working. I told him fine, as long as I was standing up, but the erection went away as soon as I laid down. He simply said, "You need an implant." He referred me to the surgeon that day. As far as recommendation regarding the type, that was the surgeon's preference.

After trying most of the oral ED meds, I found they did not work for me and/or made me sick. That what the ads do not tell you. My urology clinic NP then showed me the cylinders from I believe AMS and discussed it with me......I was quickly sold on idea. I chose not to have surgery done through that clinic, did research and ended up with Morey. He suggested Titan so I went with his suggestion trusting in his experience and expertise. He would have done AMS if I had preferred. I am thankful the NP made the original suggestion and still see her for urological concerns and I was pleased with Morey and his recommendatin. Sorry I did not know and do sooner.
If you have ED and nothing works.......what do you have to loose....pride?? Pride does not get you an erection and the satisfaction beyond. B

My internist, who is also an old friend, was helping me with my ED. When pills stopped working he suggested injections or an implant, and he clearly favored the implant. He referred me to Dr Kramer, with whom I tried injections with no success. Dr. Kramer then suggested going ahead with an implant, and he had at the time (2007) a slight preference for Titan, although he also implanted AMS if it seemed more suitable for a particular patient. I had no reason to prefer one over the other, so I chose the Titan had had the surgery done in 2008.
