AMS Ambicor

Dear All ,

I've been doing some research on the AMS Ambicor implant and happened to talk to two people who have such a type.
Now I'd imagined these implants were out of the system and no longer used but on the contrary I happened to find a surgeon who recommends only this type of implant in the UK.

Do we have on board any people who have got this implant and can share their experiences?
Reason I'm interested in is because they say it is simpler to inflate and deflate with only 3-4 pumps required.
Also it consists of lesser number of parts and components.

Also I happened to Stumble upon AMS Hydraflex and Dynalfex Self Contained Inflatable Penile Prosthesis.
Two Rods Implanted into the Penis with built in pump and resorvoir into the rods.

Any share any inputs?

Hydraflex and dynaflex are very old prothesis and have long been discontinued. You don't want malleable rods, not at 27 (if that is your age). The two piece does sound attractive, and it was offered to me. I insisted on a 3 piece though and the doc obliged and found it was much easier to implant than he had anticipated. The Ambicor is also a very old design. The doc you found may not be comfortable with placing a resevoir, but that is the only difference in the surgery. The placement of the pump and tubes is the same. Hopefully an Ambicor user will give you some insight, but I'm happy with my 3 piece.

I've been through 15 urologists trying to get this implant. Some asses, some idiots, some frank and honest. I was told the drawback to the 2 piece is that the reservoir is on the pump and it hold so little that it can only make it hard, not bigger around. I was also told by a doc that still only does 2 piece that you cannot fully deflate it because the small reservoir will not hold all the fluid in the tubes. I kill the mention of rods any time they are brought up. d

I've talked to a top surgeon, as well as many members of this forum.

The general consensus is that the 2 piece implant and the 1 piece malleable are vastly inferior to the
3 piece one. They're simply outdated designs, and do not work as well i.e the erections are not as good
and there are other serious side-effect that might happen.

The 1 piece and 2 piece are generally easier to implant, which makes the, especially suitable for inexperienced surgeons.
However, you don't let a surgeon inexperienced with implants operate on you. I suggest that you consult with an experienced
implant surgeon doing at least 100 penile implants per year.

Honestly, a buddy and I both got implants at the same time.
He was worried about the reservoir in the belly.
I boldy got at 3 piece and he got a two piece that is really difficult to use.
And yes, we did a locker room comparison up/down, etc.
There's no right answer, and we are both happy and our significant others are happy.
However, I can honestly say the three piece is easier to go up & down. The three piece gets smaller when down.
Money might be an issue, but the three piece is worth it.
At 27 years old, rods are probably not the right choice.
There will be a second surgery, so having an implant with a slippery coating will be very important for removal without adhesions. Coloplast and AMS seem to both argue on which one has the best coating.
