Time off work.

Wondering if anyone could impart some wisdom with respect to work.

1) How much time is needed off work.

2) What did you tell your employer the reason was for needing time off work.

3) I wonder if the doc could make up a letter that says you had to have surgery, but doesn't specifically state what kind of surgery. Maybe they could say it was a hernia or something?

This has been discussed here at great length. You should probably plan for 2 weeks off, but you may well be able to resume work sooner than that. Your employer doesn't need to know (and has no legal right to know) the nature of the surgery, but if you feel the need to say something you can use hernia, or "an elective procedure", or (as I did) "just a plumbing repair." There's no reason for anybody to press for more information and you have no obligation to provide it. If somebody wants more, ask them why they want to know - that usually shuts people up. After all, it's really none of their business.

I agree the I am having plumbing urology surgery is usually enough to end the discussion. Worked for me. I also agree with the above re two weeks especially I'd any lifting but even sitting for long periods can be uncomfortable immediately post op. Count on two weeks and if you show up early all the better. Lifting usually limited for 4 weeks per your doc who can give you their take on all this.

i am very healthy and planed on 1 full week from reading some post on here and talking with Dr.Well that was not the case.had to take short term disability and was off 30 days. Thought i was a tough guy and could deal with a little pain, heck vasectomy was nothing. pain was BAD and i couldn't handle it. 3 week in i still didn't no if i was gonna go back for sure but 4th week i just suddenly started feeling much better so i went back and and 2 months later i have NO pain. Would i do it again? YES. my biggest regret is not doing it sooner.I think i was just an exception ,Not the rule.

Had my op on Thursday July 2. With the holiday took a personal day plus 1 week vac. Back to work at my desk job on Monday July 13. Had 11 days off. After about day 5 had no pain just kinda uncomfortable w some swelling in my balls. Ice and tylenol and a jockstrap kept that under control. Wore a jockstrap for a month and still wear it some days cause its more comfy than boxers.
Told my boss i was having some plumbing repair. Work your surgery around a holiday and you can get more days off you would normally get anyway.
Like the other guys i would do this again in a heartbeat. Wish i had done it sooner. This thing (Titan) is awesome! The sparkle is back in the wifes eyes!
