I go into the o.r. at 7:00 Monday morning. I have no second thoughts about going ahead but this weekend find myself obsessing about how painful those first few days are going to be after my implant. I don't like taking strong narcotics and in past surgeries have usually not even filled the prescription. However I think I need to make an exception here. The only previous cutting of my penis was for a meatotomy 40 years ago and I remember how painful that was until the incision started to heal. I think I will take whatever is offered during the first week. While knowing how constipating that can be, I have to believe with eating and drinking the right stuff that can be managed. I am envious of the high pain tolerance some on this forum seem to have - I think much more than mine.

Pick up some stool softners such at senna s or miralax to help prevent the constipation before it starts.

You may be pleasantly surprised to find the discomfort less than you expected. I used the prescribed painkiller the first day, but after that Tylenol and ice packs were all I needed. Good luck!

Yes, it's going to hurt. In the U.S. Pain management is morphine for the first day. You will be aware of the pain as it is centered in your lower abs and scrotum. Make sure you wear a jock strap for the first week. If they bang into each other - ouch.

About a week or ten days, your doctor will pump it full for the first time. When you come out of surgery, you are at half full. That first pump is uncomfortable.

Depending upon your tolerance for pain, do not expect a full recovery for at least four weeks. This is your penis, after all.

Had it done twice. First time quite painful. Second time a breeze. Any questions, let me know

I know this is crazy but 3 1/2 weeks out I have a trip to New Orleans and the gulf coast that was planned last February. Two flights and about 400 miles driving in 8 days - it doesn't sound like a wise decision but we are traveling with another couple and I didn't want to cancel out on them.

Dont look back. The first few days are not fun to be sure. Just do exactly what your doc tells you. The pain isnt that bad. Ice and a jock strap are your best friends those first days. After 3 or 4 days i doubt youll need any meds besides tylenol. Keep us posted how you are doing.

Don't know which way you're having the procedure done or the doc involved but there are many on this site who have reported surprisingly little pain in the early going. Here's hoping you'll join their numbers. Let us know who and how it was done and whether or not you were surprised by a minimally painful event. Since I'll be following you soon, I have a more than casual interest.

If you do decide to take Oxy or Tramadol, I learned from the people on "Bonesmart" the knee replacement forum, to never get behind on pain pills so that you're playing catch up. Take those pills right on time. Twenty minutes late and I paid the price on my knee replacements. On time medication means effective pain management and hence, with today's prescription pain medicine, ZERO pain......if you stay ahead of the clock!

Everyone is different in how they react to pain, but I found that what I mostly felt was discomfort. Because of other medical conditions I was not able to take any of the really strong narcotics but was given Tramadol/acetominephen. I took only a couple of those because I was not really supposed to take them due to interaction with another of my meds. I also am not supposed to take any anti-inflamatory meds like Advil, Aleve etc. I cheated and did take some Advil and Tylenol together which helped on the first day or so. I found that sitting was the worst until I found a way to sit on the couch without putting pressure on the scrotum, sort of a sitting squat. Getting up from a seat was the worst, especially a couch with a soft cushion. I found if it scooted forward on the seat so that the weight was on my spine rather than full on my butt and pushed off from that position it was a lot less uncomfortable. Surprisingly, sitting on a hard dining room chair was easier than a soft sofa or armchair. Go figure. If you have ever passed a kidney stone, the pain from this op is nothing like that Best of wishes to all who are in line for the procedure.
