I'm set to be operated upon on June 16th.
I have only waited 17 years to get around to this after my radical prostatectomy. (Can't rush this stuff.)

I offer a tip to all regarding ice packs.
After past shoulder surgery I hated the pointy unyielding lumps in the ice pack.
I learned that if I mix one cup of rubbing alcohol and two cups of water in a gallon zip lock bag I have
a flexible (cheap) ice pad. (For what it's worth).

I have also heard that a good "non-pointy" coldness can be achieved with a package of frozen peas.
Re: Ho Ho Ho
Peas are "OK" but not as easily sculpted smoothly to sore spots.
Re: Ho Ho Ho
I received my implant on April 25, 2016. I used the refillable ice bags given me by the hospital to start - they were good, but we quickly ran out of crushed ice and sometimes they leaked. I also tried peas, ice cubes in a plastic bag and an old school English style ice bag. My favorite of all though was the Flexi-Pac Reusable Hot/Cold Compress Size: 5" x 10" that I ordered through Amazon for $6.74. I ordered a second one as the Flexi-Pac's were by far the best. Doesn't "melt" so no leaking, no filling the bag and stays cold much longer. Simply take out of the freezer and use (best to wrap in a small towel to prevent skin damage as with any ice). I rotated two of these on a regular basis. Now that my swelling has gone down, I don't need them as much, so now I can use them to keep my beer cold! Well worth the money.

Re: Ho Ho Ho
I agree with you regarding the Flex Pak. The one I got during physical therapy cost over $20
That's what inspired me to learn about the alcohol water mixture in a gallon zip lock @ about 35 cents.
I then had the "store bought" item and another to rotate in the freezer.

Re: Ho Ho Ho
That much swelling?
I had 2 shoulder surgerys. Shame operation, same shoulder. Had to fix what 1st guy did not do.
1st guy I had a cooler pack machine. Kept fluid cold passed thru a machine that circulated and cooled water.
I needed it and pain pills
2nd surgery. I took a few Tylenol. Don't even think ice pack. 2nd guy was considered one of the best Dr's. Healed up right away.
He told me all he does is shoulders elbows and wrist. You need a knee, ankle or hip you see guy in next office.
