Hey Guys,
I had a radical prostecatomy about 5 years ago.
I'm now 60 and haven't had a erection since surgery.
I've tried injections, pills, and the pump.
I'm thinking about an implant. However I have a slight urine leakage when aroused or during orgasim.
Can anyone that has had this problem tell me if the implant helps with this embarassing problem?
Thanks.
Urine Leakage with Implant?
Re: Urine Leakage with Implant?
In my experience with my implant the answer is no, it doesn't help. Which makes sense really, because the last thing the surgeon wants to do is come close to the urethra during the surgery. They take extra precautions to keep the urethra well out of the way of the area they are operating on. If they do accidentally nick the urethra (which does happen on occasion) the procedure is halted and the implant is removed. As part of the procedure to dilate the cavernosa in preparation for implanting the cylinders, the cavities are flushed many times with antibiotic solution. The surgeon will check for any leakage of fluid coming out from around the catheter in the urethra. If there is leakage of the flushing fluid, it means there is an opening from the cavernosa to the urethra, a cause for terminating the procedure.
I can urinate quite freely with my implant fully inflated and any urine leakage gets through too. What I have heard is that they can sometimes insert an artificial sphincter to control incontinence at the same time as the implant procedure. That might be worth checking out.

Re: Urine Leakage with Implant?
Bitman,
Do a search on Incontinence, there was a thread in November discussing this. This is what I said in that thread....
Bitman hope this helps, seems like you need both. Dr. Cornell can put you in touch with the patient I talked too. I have talked to Dr. Cornell about the IS and IPP operation, he said the recovery was longer but solved both problem, i.e. no erections and a bladder leak. If you are coming from out of town he staff will arrange concierge services, discuss on his website. All his operations are on one day and you spend the night in the hospital. The morning after he was there to remove my catheter, check the IPP and release me to go home.
BTW. Dr. F. Bradley Scott developed the IS and the IPP in Houston's Medical Center. The patents are held by AMS where he was a joint owner.
Good luck,
Ron

An inflatable sphincter (IS) to correct incontinence was developed by Dr. Scott at the time he was developing the IPP. Dr. Cornell studied at the Scott Urology Department/BCM in Houston. He can put an IPP and an IS at the same time, one incision. So I guess that answers the question can you have both, the answer is YES. I think the IS is a less involved operation than the IPP.
Go to Dr. Cornell's website and a video shows how it works. (http://www.eddoc.net)
I did talk to one of his patients who has both pumps in his scrotum, ask him if it was getting crowded down there. He said the IS was much smaller than the IPP one, you push it once to start the flow. It closes automatically, i.e. only push once at the beginning. He told me jokingly, when in the heat of passion you have to make sure you push the right button, Oh No! if you push the wrong one.

Re: Urine Leakage with Implant?
An implant really doesn't change urination or orgasms. All it does is make your dick hard. (And some guys say that point makes them have better orgasms, but that's a personal matter.)

IMHO disagree on both points........
Since you no longer have to be aroused to have an erection you can continue stroking even after ejaculation as the penis does not go into the post ejaculation shrinkage. In the book I referenced it says after you ejaculate, "you will fall over the edge and down into the ravine of post-ejaculatory stupor".
So I think guys do have better orgasms, let's face it before the IPP most of us have a hard time remembering what a "penis in vagina ejaculation" was like. Now we know it was awesome... and we don't have to stop as IT does not go limp (post-ejaculatory stupor)!
As to your first point, I along with others on FT have stated their taking a leak changes. Some of it is because of the cylinders, when not adequately deflated, trap urine and it leaks out when you put your penis away. A bummer!
Another cause, during the cylinder's insertion the doctor runs a needle thru the urethra to pull them into the glans. These needle holes heal up but the inside skin may develop a slight flesh bump causing a split or deflected stream during times of a weak stream.

Thanks for all the responses. I was hoping when you pumped up the implant, it put pressure on the urethra, those stopping any leakage.

Ron, IMHO I disagree on a couple of your points. (And this is just my opinion about my own experiences.) Post-orgasmic hardness is indeed a plus with an implant (like when the guy has climaxed but the gal hasn't yet). But as far as the ejaculation sensations (penis, body, mind, etc. -- different for many guys), it is 99% the same for me (no ejaculation sensation, of course).
Taking a leak has not changed for me as far as making it more difficult. The only thing I've noticed is that after I stop peeing, in the past I simply shook off the last few drops before I put my penis away. Nowadays I stretch the shaft skin out past the head (using both hands to do this), squeeze my penis a couple of times, and then I put it away. No problem at all really.

I am sorry, I don't mean to offend, but this is totally wrong. The Keith needle is NOT, make this perfectly clear, NOT pushed through the URETHRA. It is pushed through each CORPUS CAVERNOSA, and pierces the glans to pull the cylinders into position.
My implant has neither improved nor worsened my dribble problem as a result of PC radiation therapy or the strength of my urine stream.

Watsup you are correct, looking at an IPP operation video you can see the doctor piercing the glans. Some pictures, after the operation show the glans scab, where the needle was.
BTW Not offended IF I am in error. FT is all about sharing information and correcting wrong info.

Re: Urine Leakage with Implant?
I just went to my Euro with the same problem but I don't have an implant. Leakage when erect with BiMix. What they told me was the prostate pushed up against the bladder and allowed it to completely drain, but now that it gone it creates a little sack at the bottom that has a little pee left in it. So this guy has come up with a plan to insert some gel like material where the prostate was and build a shelf as it were so the bladder can fully drain. If anyone is in Maine I can give you his number. I go in on the 23 of August for the first consult then slip in when ever the DR is in surgery.
