I am 44 years old, 17 months post double nerve sparing robotic prostatectomy. It took 14 months before I could get an erection hard enough for intercourse with oral meds. When I have sex, with oral meds, I get hard enough for penetration but it is only 50-60% of normal and my wife does not get stimulated enough to have an orgasm. If I pump and pump like a crazy person, I get about 90-95% hard but, because of all of the pumping, I climax right when she is starting to feel it. I used injections for several weeks but I started to get a curve so I stopped.
I realize that I have another 7 months of potential improvement and if I do improve significantly, I will of course be very happy. But if I do not improve, I am trying to decide if I would get the implant.
This level of function is not adequate to satisfy my wife. I know that this is a completely subjective choice but I would like the advice of others as to whether to have the implant (after 7 more months if I do not improve further).
Many thanks.

Re: Decision Advice
Hey Young Guy,
I am almost 20 years older than you are, still have my prostate gland, have never had cancer, and find that trimix injections serve me very well. My ED is caused by diabetes, and I travelled a long and frustrating road littered with every pill combo you can think of with little success. So we have the same challenge, but arrived here by different routes under different circumstances. My advice to you, young man, is do whatever you need to do to have and maintain a wonderful and satisfying sex life. Forfeiting the full satisfaction of intimacy is simply not acceptable. Keep saying that--"this is not an acceptable outcome"--until such time as you and your wife and the doctors find the solution that works. Maybe talk more about injections--there are different formulas. Maybe talk about pumps and such. Maybe talk about other remedies. But if an implant is the solution for you--then go for it. Learn all you can; ask all the right questions; make an informed decision; and never look back. Please keep us posted on your progress toward your goal. You will find that everyone here is pulling for you. Come see us in the Chat Room when you can. We get a little bawdy sometimes, but what else would you expect when the subject is your favorite body part?
Here's to hard times,

Re: Decision Advice
What Antelope said, X2. THe fact that you still have, what seems to be, a decent errection maybe calls for more investigation of options that aren't as drastic as the implant. You can always get that done later. BOTOH, you have to keep your partner happy as well as yourself. Like Antelope said, maybe a pump (VED). It worked good for me till I had the RP and given that you can still perform, it might do the trick for now. If you do go for the implant you have the option to add girth which may make up for a loss of lenght. At this stage, maybe you should find a uro that specializes in male sexual dysfunction go from there. Good luck.
age 74 married, Robotic RP Dec.2009. Implanted Jan 2011 with AMS 700LGX and AMS 800 AUS. (AMS 1500). IPP failed March 2018 , leak. Planning an AUS revision (total replacement) in 2018, now I need the IPP too.

Youngguy!
You have been give "great" advice.
I am am 20+ years your senior. I have made the decision to go have the implant.
I have done my research and feel comfortable with my decision. Now it is just waiting for the surgery. It is scheduled for 9/2.
I would repeat what antelop said. Get all the knowledge you can get. Make your decision and never look back. You made the best and most imformed one you could make. I haven't found anyone who regrets the implant. Most guys wish they had done it years before.
There is something about bionic wood that is nice. You are always ready and that can not be bad.
Best wishes with your journey!

Re: Decision Advice
I'm close to 20 years younger than you and I had to opt for the implant due to frequent priapisms which left me scarred beyond belief.
I was implanted on 6/13/11 and I put it to use on 7/30/11 and the comments I received from my lady partner were enough that I would opt for an implant if I had felt ANY loss in erection like what you state.
The thought of KNOWING I can be as hard as I want and last as long as my partner can take is enough for me to love my decision with the implant. I had no other choice, but I still love this decision.

How do you feel about the fact that at my age (44) and, especially at your age (20s?) we will necessarily have to have multiple surgeries down the road to replace the implants as they fail?

Oh well! Life goes on. Sooner or later even a new car needs tires. Your metal health is well worth the peace of mind knowing
you have what it takes to be the man you want to be.
In 20 yrs. who knows what kind of improvements science will have come up with.
Make your decision and refuse to look back.

Surgery isn't bad. I've had my implant for 2 months and I've had sex with it and gave the lady the best sex she ever had. She is in her 40's and is very sexual. Her main comments were about my stamina, thickness and especially hardness. There aren't any other alternatives so I'll take multiple surgeries that transform me into a sex god over a useless or inadequate penis any day.
Re: Decision Advice
I'm hoping by the time I need one I can get a model that plays a Sousa march every time I pump it up. Just sayin'.

Stars and Stripes Forever is my favorite! LOL
I hope that in 7 months you will have found something that works very well for you so that your partner can also be satisfied. I know how you feel, I had much the same struggle trying to please her with a 60%er for years. All I can say is this: It is so wonderful to be able to start a sexual session absolutely 110% confident you will have a rock hard erection longer that you will need it! I pump up this bad boy and relax and enjoy the experience, no pressure to perform! My wife is having the time of her life, and I'm smiling because I'm giving it to her. And, when the time comes, I have a wonderful climax also.
The decision is yours. When you get closer, I will be happy to be your sounding board. I can relate in great detail what a fantastic experience and confidence booster this has been for me. More than I anticipated. The surgery is no big deal. I had nothing I would classify as pain, just some discomfort and the task of trying to conceal the monster for the first weeks after surgery when it was still pumped and had to point straight up! That was fun. Check out my posts under LGX Log.
Good luck!
