Breaking in - when to stop
Breaking in - when to stop
I'm 5 weeks post-op. Thanks to the great advice i received on here, now able to inflate. Question is when to stop pumping. I'm getting pain in penis head... but bulb not hard and penis doesn't seem more than 80% inflated. Should I stop or pump some more? I guess when do you stop pumping is the question. thanks

According to some studies I have read to pump till you cannot tolerate the pain any longer and hold as long as you can to attain maximum size. Other studies say pump till it is uncomfortable. One study made it very clear that fighting through the pain was the main issue relating to size and waiting until there is less pain has a big impact on the size you end up with as scar tissue will develop a capsule and shrink it. I need to get to the hospital and check on my wife. If I can, I will try to find the studies and link them here when I get home tonight. d

My best wishes for your wife getting well soon.
What inplant do you have? AMS LGX or AMS CX or another model?
How does your pumped up length compare to your pre-implant length (stretch test, Vacuum-induced or other means erection)?
How are you gauging the 80% inflation?
Do you think your penis is rigid enough for sex when pumped up to a comfortable level? Painful but tolerable level? Distractingly painful level? At no tolerable level?
Hardness of the bulb is irrelevant, I think. Hardness of the erection is relevant.

Lenny: I was activated at about 2 weeks. Doc said to pump twice a day. Pump until it is uncomfortable and leave it pumped until the "burn" becomes quite uncomfortable. I don't recall the number of pumps. At 2+ weeks I was still pretty sore and I could stay inflated for about 20 minutes. Later, I could stay inflated for an hour plus. At my 6 month visit doc said discontinue daily inflations as twice a week is plenty and... inflating for sex counts on the twice a week. I do currently do three or four times a week.

There's a difference between pain and discomfort. If the cylinders are into the head about halfway (this is good) then they may be sensitive. I know mine is. My doctor says that's an indication that those cylinders are in far enough. And, the pain will eventually subside. I am hoping so.
I inflate pretty hard, but it doesn't make the tips in the glans hurt. That I get after intercourse where I've stressed them out a bit.
I would suggest inflating as much as possible, even with some discomfort, but not pain. Ask your doctor too.

Thanks so much gentlemen. Maybe I'll try tolerating the pain a little more.

This is not the study I was looking for but touches on the same subject. Bottom line, if you pump less to avoid pain you risk a smaller capsule growing around the implant thus a smaller inflated dick size in the end. Note that not stretching it out early on may result in an LGX that cannot gain any extra size.
